Just a day after we saw 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware rolling on Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z globally now, yet another 10.4.C.0.793 firmware has been certified for Xperia Z C6606 and C6616 on PTCRB. 10.4.C.0.793 firmware seems a minor update over previous 10.4.B.0.569 firmware seen on T-Mobile Xperia Z variant.

10.4.C.0.793 firmware is only certified for Xperia Z C6606 and C6616 and will not be seen on C6602 / C6603. It seems android 4.3 update only and as per our knowledge android 4.4.x KitKat update is very far for Xperia Z for the time being. Check below the 10.4.C.0.793 firmware certification.

14.2.A.1.142 firmware certified for Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z1 Compact

At present Sony Mobile is in middle of crisis regarding continuous delay in android 4.3 update for Sony Xperia SP, T, TX and V as promised by them and in middle of that regular updates are being rolled for Xperia Z family members. Recently we saw 14.2.A.1.136 firmware getting rolled for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and same is expected to hit Xperia Z1 Compact very soon. 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware was rolled on Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z.

Just now a new 14.2.A.1.142 firmware is certified for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact on PTCRB for all the variants. 14.2.A.1.142 firmware has very less chances of getting rolled as we heard Sony is now currently working on 14.3.A.X.XXX firmware which will bring Android 4.4.X KitKat update on Xpera Z1, Z Ultra, Z1 Compact.

Sony Mobile MWC Event on 24 February 2014 Barcelona at 08:30 CET

It’s time for Mobile World Congress Barcelona event starting from 24-27 February 2014. At CES we saw Sony launching two high end devices viz. Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z1S LTE, as Sony already mentioned that no flagship device will be launched at CES 2014 so will it be at MWC 2014. MWC14 Brochures are out now so the timings and details of Sony Mobile press conference at MWC 2014 in Barcelona.

As what MWC14 brochures say, Sony’s press conference under category “device” will take place on 24 February 2014 at 08.30 CET at stands Hall 2 Stand 2P60 and Hall 3 Stand 3M10, so if you are going to attend the MWC 2014 event, don’t forgot to visit Sony’s stand.

As per tweet made by Sony, update brings BT connectivity, battery, YouTube app improvements & more“.

Yesterday we saw two major leaks regarding Sony D6503 Sirius, one displayed 4K Video app, Timeshift Video app and Creative Effect Camera App leaked screenshots from Sony D6503 “Sirius” and other one features 1080p video recording at 60fps, 15.5MP Manual Mode camera settings . Till now Sony D6503 has been seen in many leaks and almost unofficially announced. Sony D6503 features android 4.4.2 KitKat with a new refreshed Xperia UI, Snapdragon 800 processor MSM8974AB SoC, 5.2″ disply with IPS panel and Triluminos display for mobile, 16 GB onboard memory with 3 GB RAM and 20.7 MP rear cam.

Another interesting statement was quoted by “iRimas” that right now there is no option to switch on ART settings in the firmware running on this prototype, which is again a native KitKat feature. We hope all new features which we saw in Sony D6503 Sirius KitKat firmware also comes to Xperia Z1, Z Ultra and Z1 Compact when android 4.4 KitKat arrives on them.

In the middle of android 4.3 update crisis for Xperia SP, T, V and TX; Sony has just rolled a new bug fixing android 4.3 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware update for Xperia Z, Xperia ZR and Xperia ZL officially. A few days ago 14.2.A.1.136 firmware update was rolled for Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra and this new 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware brings similar improvements. Sony rolled first android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 firmware for Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z.

We have not seen any user getting 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware update till now, it seems it is still seeding and gradual rollout will be done soon depending upon the regions. We have not got it yet on our Xperia Z C6602 in India. Sony has update on the software support pages for Xperia Z, ZL and ZR with 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware details dated today.

Sony D2303 and Sony D2305 spotted at Indonesian Postel website

It seems Sony is cooking more new models now besides Sony D6503, Sony D6603 and Sony SGP521 as just now we spotted two new models Sony D2303 and Sony D2305 at Indonesian Postel website (FCC equivalent of Indonesia) dated today. Sony D2303 and Sony D2305 seems to be sibling versions of same Xperia smartphone.

Some sources reports that Sony D2303 is expected to be a LTE version and Sony D2305 as HSPA+ version of same Xperia smartphone, whose exact model number is still unknown. Let’s take a look at certification of Sony D2303 and Sony D2305 at Indonesian Postel.

We searched AnTuTu benchmark database, but there is no record of Sony D2303 and Sony D2305 for now. It seems Sony D2303 and D2305 are mid ( low ) end devices just like we saw Xperia E1 a few days ago. We may seem them at MWC 2014 event but it seems very unlikely if they make an appearance.

Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z Ultra GPE CyanogenMod 11 Nightly Available

A good news for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition users, just now CyanogenMod has confirmed that CyanogenMod 11 Nightly version ROM is available now for the mentioned devices. CyanogenMod 11 is based on android 4.4.2 version. Sony has already planned android 4.4 update for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra but it may not be coming till March and Xperia Z Ultra GPE is already on android 4.4.2 KOT49H version and updates are maintained by Google.

At present CyanogenMod 11 Nightly is available for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra and for Z Ultra GPE it is in testing now. You need to unlock bootloader of respective devices for installing ROM. Check below links if you interested in installing them and like to taste android 4.4 KitKat flavor on your device before Sony’s official updates.

Nexus 8 Tablet Coming at end of April from Google-Asus Rumors

New rumors have started coming for Google Nexus 8 Tablet now as Google is working on it now due to low Nexus 7 2013 tablet sales world wide. Google Nexus 8 Tablet manufactured by ASUS due to launch at end of April 2014, as per latest article on DigiTimes quotes. As per sources Google is planning to ship initially 2 Million Nexus 8 Tablet units from launch.

As per reports sales of Nexus 7 2013 tablets were a bit low as 3 Million units sold till Dec 2013 due to increasing competition in 7 inch display devices. Many 5-6 inch display devices from Sony, Samsung, LG have come up recently and 6.4″ Xperia Z Ultra Tablet and Samsung’s Note devices generation are competitive devices in the same range.

To avoid price and screen size competition, Google is planning to launch Nexus 8 Tablet with 8 inch screen display, as there are not much devices in same range except Apple’s iPad Mini which has around 7.9 inch screen size.

If rumors come true we may see soon a new GoogleNexus 8 Tablet manufactured again by ASUS and hope so with calling facility this time and a higher Snapdragon SoC. Neither the existence of Nexus 8 Tablet nor its release date is confirmed for the time being, take the news with a pinch of salt.

It comes in a blue color box.

Back of cover reads the description of case and how to use pictorial diagram.

Naked case below, ASUS logo is embossed at bottom center of case. It is so sleek, feels very light in weight. Check the adjustable linings on the case which can be folded.

It has a camera opening, externals speaker opening at top and bottom, power and volume rocker keys cover and a USB port opening.

Width of the case is not so thick, it’s OK and has smooth but slippery surface on top and back.

Nexus 7 2013 LTE tablet fits so well in the case, it looks very nice. All ports well accessible, fitting of case is great. On the front flap of case notice the sticky rubber portion on lined surface, well it sticks to screen so that case remains close while holding it. Inner lining of back side of case is made up of plastic ( plyurethane ) from inside and outside.

Check the notebook style opening of the case and slot for top external speakers.

Notice the case cover flaps over power and volume rocker buttons. There is also a pin hole for microphone.

Perfect opening at bottom of case for external speakers and USB port.

Camera opening seems a bit shifted in case but no obstruction in taking pics. Pin hole for 3.5mm headphone jack is also provided.

Lined flap can be folded back to act like stand so that you can watch movies comfortably.

Android 4.3 Testing completed, Awaiting rollout for Xperia SP and TX, says Vodafone Australia

Another info regarding android 4.3 rollout for Xperia SP and TX has come up from weekly software updates info from Vodafone Australia, they claims “Android 4.3 Testing completed, Awaiting rollout“. Some times back Vodafone AU says testing is in progress and then we saw a new firmware getting certified for Xperia SP, T, V and TX on PTCRB, may be that’s the final build which will be rolled out anytime now.

At present for Xperia T and Xperia V Android 4.3 9.2.A.0.295 firmware is the latest build certified on PTCRB and for Xperia SP Android 4.3 12.1.A.0.266 firmware is the latest build which should be released by Sony as the already said in a tweet it will be rolled at late Jan / Early Feb 2014. Feb’s 1st week is already over now.

Sony’s Q3 FY2013 Earnings Announcement – Ships 10.7 Million Xperia Smartphones

Sony’s Q3 FY2013 Earnings have been announced by the company today in an event presented by Kazuo Hirai, Masaru Kato and Yoshinori Hashitani. A detailed report of Sony’s Q3 FY2013 Earnings are available on their website. A huge increase in the sales and operating revenue is seen, mainly due to launch of PlayStation 4 and it’s price which is too much in many regions due to impact of foreign exchanges, quotes Sony.

So as our main interest is in Xperia smartphones sales, let’s see how much they sold. As per Sony’s report on number of Xperia smartphones sold in Q3 FY2013 is 10.7 Million which has increased from 10 Million in Q2 and 9.6 Million in Q1 of same year. Number of Xperia smartphones sold in year 2013 has been increased decently as compared to previous year 2012 where maximum 8.8 Million Xperia smartphones were sold in Q2 FY2012.

Let’s have a look at detailed sales of key electronic products from Sony in Q3 FY2013.

As you can see sales were lower in Q1 FY2013 when actually flagship device was launched ( Xperia Z, ZL ). In Q1 2014 Sony has already rolled two high-end devices Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z1S with two mid range devices Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia E1. It is in rumors that Sony will roll some more high-end devices at MWC2014. Sales of all mentioned devices will affect the Xperia smartphone units selling in Q1 2014.

In the annual forecast report of Sony for year 2014, Sony has reduced the Xperia smartphones selling units from 42 Million to 40 Million which means atleast 10 Million unit sales in every quarter on an average.

A considerable increase in selling Xperia smartphone units have been seen, we hope same scenario continues in year 2014 also and it may be more when Sony introduces their next flagship device, which is not expected in Q1 for the time being.

Nexus 5 Screen showing dark spot due to hairline crack within the LCD

Covering our post series on various Nexus 5 defects, we found that many LG Nexus 5 users are now complaining regarding the fragile Nexus 5 screen display. One user got his Nexus 5 screen cracked after it fell on the floor though it was his fault but still Nexus 5 screen got cracked with an impact from such a small height. If you don’t know let us tell you Nexus 5 features 4.95″ screen Corning Gorilla Glass 3 display.

Another Nexus 5 user got in touch with us and sent some of the pics of his defected Nexus 5 screen display. In his case, he quotes “screen impact causing a hairline crack within the LCD which eventually causes fluid to bleed out leaving a dark spot on the screen. It looks like water damage but with no pathway from a speaker or button. It’s simply a dark splotch in the middle of the phone“.

Nexus 5 Screen showing dark spot is about 1 cm x.5 cm on the top third of Nexus 5 screen. It looks like water damage but there is no pathway or trail from any port/button/speaker.

Issue is that does this type of defect in Nexus 5 screen will be taken under warranty by the LG ? Well it seems no to us, as another user told us that they refused to take cracked screen issues under warranty cover.

Info Eye version 1.3.04 update rolling for Xperia Z1 Camera App

A moment ago Sony updated Album App to version 5.4.A.0.12 which showed in changelog that it supports Android 4.4 KitKat and just now many users in India on their Xperia Z1 are getting Info Eye version 1.3.04 update notification. Info Eye version 1.3.04 notification till now seen Xperia Z1 C6902 India, C6903 Poland also.

Hope it also comes to Sony Smart Camera app present in Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, and Z Ultra. Previous Info eye app version was 1.2.04. Info Eye version 1.3.04 is a 21.9 MB update in size.

Info Eye version 1.3.04 is rolling via OTA, check in your update center app for notification.

Sony updates Album App to version 5.4.A.0.12 – Android KitKat Support

Sony Mobile has just updated one of their media app, Album app is updated to new version 5.4.A.0.12 from previous 5.3.A.0.24 version. This new update moves album app from version 5.3.A to 5.4.A which means considerable changes in the app. At present Album app version 5.4.A.0.12 is confirmed rolling on Xperia Z series and Xperia L across many nations.

Album app version 5.4.A.0.12 brings android 4.4 KitKat Support as mentioned in the changelog which is very amusing right now, why would Sony mention android 4.4 KitKat stuff in the changelog of media app update. Well if you see clearly in screenshots below in one the screenshot taken by Sony itself, all icons in status bar are white in color which is a standard KitKat feature of Android.

Sony Mobile Ends Future updates for Xperia S, SL, Acro S, Arc S, Ion, P, U, Go, Miro, Tipo, J, Sola

A sad news for many Xperia smartphone users, just now it is seen and CONFIRMED that Sony Mobile has planned to stop any further future android firmware updates for Xperia S, SL, Acro S, Arc S, Ion, P, U, Go, Miro, Tipo, J, Sola. We do agree that users of just mentioned devices may not feel good after reading this but that’s what Sony Mobile has decided. Many of the mentioned handsets are not available in market now and if they are, that’s not commercially profitable for the company.

Sony Mobile has taken this decision for all handsets which were more than 18 months or 2 years older, no further firmware support will be given by Sony officially. The present firmware available for all handsets will remain as last update on them. Sony Mobile has just abandoned the firmware support not customer support for those device, keep that in mind.

Below you can find the detailed info on the last firmware update available for Xperia S, SL, Acro S, Arc S, Ion HSPA and LTE , P, U, Go, Miro, Tipo and Tipo Dual, J, Sola. Below info is taken from software “Support” section of respective devices.

Summing up all Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia Acro S, Xperia J, Xperia Go, Xperia Ion HSPA+ and LTE and Xperia P will remain on android 4.1.2 jelly bean and Xperia Arc S, Xperia U, Xperia Tipo and Tipo Dual, Xperia Sola, Xperia Miro will remain on android 4.0 ice cream sandwich.

At the moment Android 4.3 is awaited for Xperia SP, T, TX and V.

While Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z1S, Xperia SP will soon see android 4.4.2 KitKat update as promised by Sony in the first batch. 2nd batch of devices may include Xperia C, L, M and hopefully Xperia T, TX and V also.

As per us Sony Mobile has shown proper support when it comes to android updates, we do agree that they normally roll updates late but now they are consistent in rolling updates especially for Xperia Z family smartphones but they should also focus on mid range devices; ignoring them is not a good strategy from such a large firm. We will be reviewing two different cases for Xperia Z1 here in two different posts.

Xperia Z1 Leather Flip Case from Noreve, model number Tradition D is priced at 44.08€ inclusive of all taxes and ships world wide with in 24 hours free of cost. You get to design your own case if you want, choose the various color combinations and textures available. You need to pay extra 4.17€ for customization excluding default black color case. Option for gift wrapping the case is also available on paying extra 5€.

[ REVIEW ] Xperia Z1 Leather Flip Case from Noreve

As usual it came in black and red box combination which looks very neat for a retail box of a phone’s case. Let’s have a look at it. Case is present inside a red pouch.

Now let’s have a look at naked Xperia Z1 Leather Flip Case from Noreve. In the above pic you can see on front is has Noreve’s brand logo on bottom right corner.

At back Noreve- Saint Tropez is written in silver color and stitched in black thread.

Let’s put Xperia Z1 inside the case. Case fits perfectly. Notice the front flap’s inner lining there is Noreve embossed everywhere, surface lining is smooth so that no harm to screen is made. All bumper clips are at perfect place so that phone fits firmly inside case.

Non-magnetic closure is included in the case.

Perfect space for speaker grills in the case.

Notebook style of case. You can’t access any ports while case in on along left profile of case i.e. you can’t use magnetic charging dock DK31 or EC21 charging cable while this case is on.

Opening for 3.5mm headphone jack in the case. Do note that there is no opening for hearing speaker on front flap which means if you use the phone for call while case on then hearing sound will be very low as what we faced.

While case in on, you may still be able to access the power button, volume rocker keys, SIM card slot and external camera key on right profile of Xperia Z1.

Perfect camera opening in the case without any obstruction for LED flash light. An opening for secondary microphone is also provided at top.
