Is Xperia Z2 Ultra coming with Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet at MWC 2014 ?

A few days back we saw leaked press render pics of Xperia Z2 Tablet which confirmed the commercial name of Sony SGP521 tablet and a few more specifications, well all was allegedly leaked by @GadgetLeaks. Just now a quite amazing tweet has come up from their side mentioning “Expect an Xperia Z2 Ultra and Xperia Z2 alongside Xperia Tablet Z2.”

@GadgetLeaks tweeted about Xperia Z2 Ultra, will it be coming at MWC 2014 event or at some other event; no info regarding that. It is now almost confirmed that Sony will definitely unveil Sony D6503 Sirius ( aka Xperia Z2 ) and Xperia Z2 Tablet but chances of Xperia Z2 Ultra at MWC is 50-50% now 😛

Xperia Z Ultra Wi-Fi only tablet was recently launched in Japan and Xperia Z Ultra phone was launched in mid year 2013, so it may happen Sony will bring up a successor of Xperia Z Ultra in form of Xperia Z2 Ultra.

Sony will also unveil its latest Xperia KitKat UI at MWC on all handsets launched with “Z2” tag hopefully and then we can expect KitKat update to come on other handsets.

Sony D6503 Sirius front panel listed for NTT DoCoMo Version

As MWC 2014 event is coming near we are seeing daily some leaks regarding Sony D6503 Sirius much rumored to be commercially named as Xperia Z2. Just now as claimed, original Sony D6503 Sirius front panel is listed at Moumantai, online spare parts retailer shop in Japan. It is labelled as Xperia Z2 “Sirius” for NTT DoCoMo by the retailer.

On the top of Sony D6503 Sirius front panel, NTT DoCoMo logo is spotted and on bottom Sony logo which clearly hints that Sony D6503 Sirius well head to Japan also and that too early after global launch. Sony D6503 Sirius front panel listed can not be bought right now.

Xperia Album App 5.4.A.0.20 update rolling – Android KitKat Support

Sony has just rolled Album App 5.4.A.0.20 update following the previous Album App 5.4.A.0.12 version rolled in early Feb. Album App 5.4.A.0.20 update spotted as OTA update on Xperia Z family members and Xperia L, Xperia SP also following the same changelog as like its previous version.

Album App 5.4.A.0.20 update says Android 4.4 KitKat support again in changelog, which may indicate that Sony is updating its media apps before they roll out the official android 4.4 KitKat firmware update on their handsets. If you look closely in the screenshots you will see white icons in the status bar which is a native KitKat feature.

Xperia Z1 Compact using JDI and AUO display Panels differently confirmed

If you remember sometimes back it was spotted that Sony has used two different display panels from JDI and AUO in Xperia Z1F and now same scenario is now spotted on Xperia Z1 Compact, international version of Xperia Z1 Mini released at CES 2014. As per reports Sony has used panels from JDI/JDC and AUO again in making Xperia Z1 Compact display, as many users have now confirmed that they have two different panels in their Xperia Z1 Compact.

Interestingly both JDI and AUO display panels used in Xperia Z1 Compact have superb display as per users but some of them are reporting bluish tint in the screen of Xperia Z1 Compact on both panels. Both panels have good brightness level and nice viewing angles.

How to Identify which panel your Xperia Z1 Compact using ?

You may need root to find that out but if your Xperia Z1 Compact is not rooted then use a file manager like “Solid Explorer”. Open it and then navigate to #_ System Root > sys > devices > mdss_dsi_panel > panel_id and Check what is mentioned there.

Sony has used different panels for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 F and now for Xperia Z1 Compact, well it seems display lottery will affect future flagship devices also. Xperia Z1 Compact users do answer a short poll below which will help us to find out which display panel is used more in making Xperia Z1 Compact.

10.4.C.0.797 firmware certified for Xperia Z C6606 and C6616 variants

A new 10.4.C.0.797 firmware build has been certified for Xperia Z C6606 and C6616 variants on PTCRB following the previous certification of 10.4.C.0.793 firmware which was not rolled. 10.4.C.0.797 firmware seems to be a particular carrier specific firmware update for T-Mobile Xperia Z or any other Xperia Z carrier variant model. 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware released for Xperia Z C6602/C6606 still has not appeared on PTCRB.

Previous firmware which marked appearance of Xperia Z T-Mobile was 10.4.B.0.569 build and this new 10.4.C.0.797 firmware may or may not come seeing the frequent change in build within 10 days of certification of last firmware.

At present we don’t have info regarding KitKat firmware update for Xperia Z but for Xperia Z1, Z Ultra and Z1 Compact, testing of KitKat 14.3.A.x.xxx firmware has already started. It seems other members of Xperia Z family will get KitKat update later after flagship models are updated.

No ETA is there for 10.4.C.0.797 firmware rollout yet, we will let you know if this 10.4.C.0.797 firmware rolls out on Xperia Z. It will not come to global versions of Xperia Z.

Google has finally launched the bright Red Nexus 5 world wide, available from Play Store. In India Red Nexus 5 is available for Rs 32999 ( 32 GB version ) from Play Store and we have got one for us now. Well it’s not actually Red it seems a mixture of Red and Orange color, to tell truly.

Nexus 5 features Snapdragon 800 SoC, 5″ HD IPS Display, Adreno 330 GPU, 2 GB RAM, OIS in 8 MP rear cam and is loaded with android 4.4 KitKat. At present latest available android version for Nexus 5 is android 4.4.2 KOT49H update.

Xperia G specifications Leaked – 4.8″ display,8 MP rear cam,1 GB RAM ?

Yesterday we saw @ViziLeaks leaking a pic of Xperia G beneath Xperia Z1 and it was just a pic but today they have leaked another pic of Xperia G with some of the specifications lined to it. As per @ViziLeaks, Xperia G is a mid range device and will have 4.8″ screen display probably a 720p HD screen, 8 MP Rear cam, 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage. Xperia G will support LTE and no IP ratings seen as per original source.

Yesterday we saw that Xperia G features a bit smaller frame than Xperia Z1, may be equal to Xperia Z frame size and right profile exact identical to Xperia Z1 Compact. Look at the leaked pic of Xperia G below, it shows the rear panel of Xperia G.

What is Noticed ? 8 MP rear cam positioned at center, LED flash positioned beside rear cam and then secondary microphone is located. NFC logo is also spotted at back. You can see the hole for 3.5mm headphone jack and an open micro USB port which may indicate that it don’t support IP ratings.

What is to be seen now that rear panel of Xperia G made of which material as there has been recent news that Xperia Z1 Compact’s rear panel is made of a plastic material so will Sony use it again on Xperia G, remains a mystery.

Just now Xperia V LT25i users have started confirming that they are also receiving this Android 4.3 9.2.A.0.295 firmware update.

Xperia V LT25i Android 4.3 9.2.A.0.295 firmware update is at present only confirmed in India and Singapore ( SingTel ) region, Sweden available over PC Companion and SUS. Xperia G Live Pic Leaked beneath Xperia Z1 – Is it Sony D5103 ?

After using many alphabets it seems Sony Mobile will use now “G” with its Xperia lineup, just now @ViziLeaks has leaked first live pic of Xperia G where it is placed beneath Xperia Z1. Except the name and pic of Xperia G nothing has been leaked regarding specifications of Xperia G from the original source, except that it has mediocre specs. It is pretty clear now Sony is gearing for more Xperia smartphones in Q1 of 2014 as we have already seen Sony D6503 Sirius in various alleged pic previously and today also where it was put besides Xperia Z and Xperia Z1.

Have a look at the pic of Xperia G below, you can clearly see that its right profile looks exactly similar to Xperia Z1 Compact but the frame size of Xperia G is a bit smaller than Xperia Z1 may be a 4.6″ screen display or a 5″ inch screen display in a smaller frame like Xperia ZL and Xperia ZR.

Yesterday we spottedSony D5103 in GFX Benchmark database featuring a 720p HD display ( 1280×720 resolution ) powered by 1.4 GHz quad core processor MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 and Adreno 305 GPU and running KitKat android version. Till now we have seen Sony D6503 Sirius in various alleged leaks showing it by the side of Xperia Z1, its full KitKat UI, its 4k Video Camera app and 60fps recording in 1080p video mode well just now saw some more clear pics of Sony D6503 Sirius in black and white color, besides Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z where you can exactly compare the dimensions of each phone. As per leaks Sony D6503 features android 4.4.2 KitKat with a new refreshed Xperia UI, Snapdragon 800 processor MSM8974AB SoC, 5.2″ disply with IPS panel and Triluminos display for mobile, 16 GB onboard memory with 3 GB RAM and 20.7 MP rear cam.

Two pics have been leaked by a tipster from Digi-Wo where he has shown Sony D6503 Sirius in comparison with Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z. If the tipster is to be believed he says “Sony D6503 is Xperia Z2 whose listing will go live in April and it comes with Sony logo no longer printed on anti-shatter film“. We can’t confirm the exact model name of Sony D6503, for the time being take this info with a pinch of salt 😉

Just a few minutes back we saw Sony Mobile updating Android 4.3 9.2.A.0.295 firmware for Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V on their product page and just now we have got confirmation form Sony’s official blog post that they have started rolling Android 4.3 9.2.A.0.295 firmware for Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V, they also included that a few days back they started rolling Xperia SP Android 4.3 12.1.A.0.266 firmware update.

9.2.A.0.295 firmware brings android 4.3 officially on Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V and as the update is phased as per Sony’s statement they are seeding it now. Soon Android 4.3 9.2.A.0.295 firmware will hit globally till then keep checking for an update notification of Android 4.3 9.2.A.0.295 firmware update in PC Companion.

9.2.A.0.295 firmware was certified for Xperia T and Xperia V some 13 days ago on PTCRB website and just now Sony Mobile has updated officially Android 4.3 9.2.A.0.295 firmware for Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V on their respective software support page with a detailed changelog of 9.2.A.0.295 firmware update. Android 4.3 12.1.A.0.266 firmware was rolled for Xperia SP two days ago and still global rollout of same has to be hit.

Same 9.2.A.0.295 firmware build will be rolling on all three devices, as seen on Sony Mobile website dated today 13 Feb 2014 the update should come by end of today hopefully. No ETA for 9.2.A.0.295 firmware is known still but either it has started seeding in some regions or it will begin very soon.

Xperia SP Android 4.4 KitKat under investigation now, Will it receive?

Yesterday we saw many Xperia SP users reporting android 4.3 12.1.A.0.266 firmware update on their handset but at present it is only limited for some particular regions, globally roll out is yet to be seen. Sony Mobile has updated today android 4.3 12.1.A.0.266 firmware update changelog for Xperia SP officially on their product support page but a blog post confirming same is yet to be seen.

Sony has already shown its android 4.4 KitKat upgrade plan where Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Xperia Z, ZL, Tablet Z will be getting KitKat in first batch and later Sony will reveal its cards for second batch. Interestingly Xperia ZR, Xperia SP and Xperia C didn’t make to first batch.

Other mid range Xperia handsets left are Xperia L and Xperia M, confirmation for them is also pending. Well just now spotted that before rolling android 4.3 for Xperia SP, Sony mentioned that future update on Xperia SP will be Android 4.4 KitKat but after rolling android 4.3 for Xperia SP, Sony has changed the status to “under investigation” now.

Xperia ZR, Xperia T, TX, V and Xperia SP now reads same status of Android 4.4 KitKat under investigation. May be Sony is now spending time on how well KitKat will be for these devices. We have already seen the alleged existence of two high end device Sony D6503 and Sony D6603 along with a new tablet Sony SGP521 aka Sony Castor. Xperia SP Frame Bent Issue appeared like Xperia Z1 – Poor Build Quality or User’s Fault ?

A few months back we reported that many Xperia Z1 users were complaining that frame bent has appeared in their handset without any external force applied. Though if you’ll look at Xperia Z1 frame bent pics you wont believe that it has appeared without application of any external force but as number of users reporting this issue is very large so it makes us to doubt on the build quality of Xperia Z1 on those particular handsets. Well unfortunately now Xperia SP users are also reporting same frame bent issue on their handset.

One such user Corey Walter has contacted us regarding the “Xperia SP Frame Bent Issue” which appeared in his handset and it really looks really terrible. Flat bar designed Xperia SP is looking like Xperia T curve design, well mocking aside; all such cases which are arising almost daily regarding the build quality of handsets is a serious concern.

Notice the front panel of Xperia SP shown below, it is clearly bent from the front like a curve.

Below user has placed his Xperia SP over LG Optimus and look at the ends of Xperia SP, they are moved upwards not perfectly horizontal.

Check the curve formed in body of Xperia SP.

As claimed by the user, all frame bent appeared itself, no force was applied from his end but the issue now arises is that whether Sony will take up this case under warranty or not. As seen from the comments of many Xperia Z1 users, some got their handset replaced from Sony for same issue and to some Sony refused saying such frame bents can’t appear itself, weird huh ?

Another user “Narelle & Phil” has reached us and unfortunately bends have appeared in their Xperia SP frame also which is very disappointing, it seems now as many users are reporting, there may be some issue with those frames.

Just to update users, Sony has started rolling officially Android 4.3 12.1.A.0.266 firmware on Xperia SP, check below link for full details on it.

Xperia SP 12.1.A.0.266 firmware Android 4.3 Rolling Now Officially

After ages Sony has now officially rolled Android 4.3 12.1.A.0.266 firmware for Xperia SP, just now saw it. 12.1.A.0.266 firmware was certified more than 10 days ago and as promised a bit late Sony is rolling it now. Sony has already rolled android 4.3 firmware for Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z, ZL, ZR, Tablet Z a lot ago and still it is awaited for Xperia T, TX and V. No official statement on Sony’s blog has come up regarding 12.1.A.0.266 firmware update rolling.

At present Android 4.3 12.1.A.0.266 firmware is confirmed on Xperia SP C5303 in Malaysia, Australia ( Vodafone AU ), UK, Greece, Central Europe, Netherlands, Bulgaria region over PC Companion, available over SUS also. No OTA for 12.1.A.0.266 firmware seen yet. In India on Xperia SP C5302 no 12.1.A.0.266 firmware update notification not seen yet. 12.1.A.0.266 firmware is still seeding and will be soon rolled out in other regions also.
