A few days back we saw 9.2.A.1.205 firmware update rolling out on Xperia T and Xperia TX as a bug fixing update over original android 4.3 9.2.A.0.295 firmware and now Sony has released a higher build as bug fixing update for Xperia V i.e. 9.2.A.1.210 firmware update. It is just a minor bug fixing update, not yet updated on Sony Xperia V software page and on PTCRB also.

Sony has officially launched today Sony LifeLog app first version on Google Play Store for Xperia Z2 ( where it comes pre-installed ), Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact i.e. compatible with devices running android 4.4.2 KitKat only for the being. Sony LifeLog app is compatible with Sony SmartBand SW10 from which you can track your daily activities and log your details.

At present Sony LifeLog app is available for selective regions only. It is not available for regions like India, UK, Taiwan, China, USA at the time of writing the post we tried and were not able to download it on other devices except Xperia Z2. Sony may make it available for all regions once global roll out of Xperia Z2 and Sw10 band is completed. Sony Windows phone coming this summer July 2014, Rumors

Sony making a Windows phone officially, this news has always been in rumors but it seems that it is about to come true now. Tom Warren, Senior Editor The Verge has just tweeted about GDR updates for Windows phone 8.1, meanwhile he also tweeted that Sony Windows phone might be coming this summer July 2014 with new GDR updates for Windows phone from Microsoft.

Though nothing is confirmed for the time being Sony manufacturing a Windows phone though they made a prototype handset a long time back with code name “Julie” which never saw release unfortunately.

It would be great to see Sony manufacturing a Windows phone handset along with Android. Sony has become the 2nd largest smartphone brand in India replacing Apple from second spot as per the data released by IDC. Sony Windows phone can improve their brand value more in regional as well as Global market as for the time being Windows phone market is mainly covered by Nokia only.

Xperia Altair name spotted in Xperia Z1 Ringtones list with other Xperia devices – Coincidence or Nomenclature ?

Going through Xperia Z1 KitKat ringtones and notification tones list, notification sounds with name “Altair”, “Castor”, “Sirius”, “Pollux” are present out of which three are the names of present Sony Xperia devices. Sirius is codename for Xperia Z2, Castor is codename for Xperia Z2 Tablet while Pollux is codename for Xperia Tablet Z whereas Altair is rumored to be codename for Xperia Z2 Compact which was recently spotted on FCC.

Notification sound for codename of flagships for H1 year 2014 are present inside the notification tones list in Xperia Z1 KitKat update, it seems a pure coincidence to us but name “Altair” has been spotted unexpectedly.

Below you can see some notification sounds whose name corresponds to Xperia device’s naming.

Below you can also see “Canopus” written; a few days back we saw Xperia Canopus making noise as it got certification in Japan but still the device Xperia Canopus is in rumors.

Xperia Altair is very much rumored to be Xperia Z2 Compact whose certification on FCC and its front panels have been spotted on an online retailer’s site.

It can purely be a coincidence or a nomenclature from Sony for naming its new device by making a notification sound on its codename.

How to root Xperia Z2 Tablet and Install CWM recovery 6.0.4.6 version

Sony has officially released Xperia Z2 Tablet in market and many users have now got it in their hands already, just like we saw Xperia Z2 getting root a few days back before it was officially released in market, Xperia Z2 Tablet has now also got root and CWM recovery can be installed. Latest firmware for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet is 17.1.A.2.55 firmware which was recently spotted on PTCRB for both devices but rolled for Xperia Z2 yet.

XDA legend DooMLoRD has posted a method to root Xperia Z2 Tablet and installing ClockworkMod recovery on it. You need to unlock the bootloader of your Xperia Z2 Tablet before proceeding so make sure you do that and backup your TA partition before unlocking bootloader of you will loose your DRM keys. Sony D5103 spotted at Indonesian Postel, Coming soon

Sony D5103 is not a new name to us, we have seen it recently on GFX Benchmark Database with its full specifications getting leaked. Sony D5103 features 5.2″ 720p HD screen with 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal memory, 8 MP rear camera, 1.3 MP front camera. Sony D5103 spotted featuring S400 SoC 1.4 GHz quad core processor, Adreno 305 GPU.

Sony D5103 is now spotted at Indonesian Postel which seems a real deal, every phone which has been spotted at Indonesian Postel has came into existence very soon after its appearance. In past we also saw Xperia G pics getting leaked, though there is rare chances that Sony D5103 is Xperia G but you never know, Sony likes to surprise all.

Xperia M2 hands on photos and preliminary review

Sony came up with Xperia M2 at MWC 2014 event which is yet another Sony’s mid range smartphone besides Xperia T2 Ultra / Dual for year 2014. Xperia M2 features 4.8″ qHD Display, Snapdragon 400 SoC 1.2 GHz quad core processor ( MSM8926 / MSM8226 ) with Adreno 305 GPU. Xperia M2 weighs 148 grams and 8.6mm thick and has a pretty good build design.

Xperia M2 packs 8 MP rear cam, HD video recording, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage and external SD card support up to 32 GB. It is LTE enabled and has 2300 mAh battery. Let’s see what Xperia M2 holds with some Xperia M2 hands on photos and a preliminary review.

Sony is 2nd largest smartphone brand in India, Replaced Apple from 2nd spot

Sony has become the 2nd largest smartphone brand in India, replacing Apple from the 2nd spot in terms of smartphone sales share in India; as per the data released by IDC for October – December quarter 2013. Recently Sony has focused on sales of its Xperia smartphones in range of Rs 10000 to Rs 20000 backed up by Rs 300 crore marketing spend. Samsung managed to retain its first spot as smartphone brand in India with dominating 43% market share value while Sony went ahead with 9.1% market share value as compared to Apple’s 7% market share value.

The main reason behind Apple’s decline in India was company’s decision to remove Apple iPhone 4 from the market, which was Apple’s most selling smartphone in India, with price tag under Rs 20000. Apple relaunched iPhone 4 in India but it didn’t get enough response from Indian users the then.

IDC India senior market analyst Manasi Yadav says…

“Some of the top selling models for Sony are Xperia M Dual and Xperia C priced in this bracket ( Rs 10000 – Rs 20000 ), which is one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian smartphone market“.

As in conversation with Economics Times, Kenichiro Hibi, managing director at Sony India told them…

“The smartphone business doubled in last one year which led to 20% growth in overall sales in 2013-14. We expect to grow at a similar pace this fiscal as well to touch Rs 12,000 crore sales“.

“However, smartphone business will overtake television business in sales this fiscal year,” Hibi told ET. “For us, both television and smartphone will be the main pillars to continue the pace of growth in India“.

“Sony’s smartphone business has attained similar revenues as its flagship television business in the fiscal ended March 31. The two businesses contributed around 70% to the company’s turnover of about Rs 10,000 crore during the year.”

As per IDC, Sony may see some value share decrease in January – March 2014 quarter, due to Nokia coming into android market with budget phones in much lower price range and Micromax launching a new lineup of Canvas smartphones.

Sony has launched Xperia E1 and Xperia E1 Dual in India market and Xperia T2 Ultra Dual which are in the mid price range ( Xperia T2 Ultra priced a bit high at Rs 24K ). We hope Sony will soon launch Xperia M2 in India to capture the mid range android smartphone market in India.

Sony is yet to launch its H1 flagship device Xperia Z2 in India which is a huge competition for Galaxy S5 in India. We hope some better market share value for Sony India in future.

Xperia Z2 Compact “Altair” passes through FCC – SO-04F NTT DoCoMo model number

Xperia Z2 takes over the legacy of Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 took over the legacy of Xperia Z, in similar fashion it seems Sony is now bringing over Xperia Z2 Compact “Altair”, an upgraded version of Xperia Z1 Compact which was launched at CES 2014 and its sibling Xperia Z1 F was launched on NTT DoCoMo in Japan in year end 2013. It has only been 3 months since Xperia Z1 Compact came into market,

Xperia Z2 Compact is officially spotted on FCC under code name “Altair” and SO-04F NTT DoCoMo model number. No specification of Xperia Z2 Compact Altair is out yet, though we are expecting the similar specs and features like Xperia Z2 except the screen and battery size. Though it is confirmed that Xperia Z2 Compact “Altair” will use the same 20.7 MP ear camera.

Below you can see the model layout of Xperia Z2 Compact. Front camera location is similar like Xperia Z1 Compact.

Xperia Z2 Compact Altair is spotted running 14.3.B.0.53 firmware version ( android version unknown yet ). Both LTE and HSPA versions are expected to be released.

Xperia Z2 17.1.A.2.55 firmware update rolled – Android 4.4.2 KitKat

Xperia Z2 which is still not available in most of the market yet has been hit by another 17.1.A.2.55 firmware update just now. Xperia Z2 is still in shipping stage and has not come to market yet while we saw on PTCRB firmwares getting certified for Xperia Z2 frequently which clearly indicates that Sony is working on the retail firmware release of Xperia Z2 with lots of improvements.

Xperia Z2 17.1.A.2.55 firmware update was recently seen on PTCRB being certified for both D6503 and D6502 version and now it has been seen on some Xperia Z2 handsets which only a few users possess right now. 17.1.A.2.55 firmware update is just a bug fixing update over previous 17.1.A.2.36 firmware. 17.1.A.2.55 firmware is confirmed on D6503 LTE France region.

Sony has started a promotional campaign for Xperia Z2 in Singapore where you will be getting a black Sony SmartBand SW10 free ( worth $138 ) if you Pre order Xperia Z2 in Singapore from Sony Xperia stores.

Now you can Pre order Xperia Z2 in Singapore for SRP $998, it will be available in black, while and purple color. This promotional offer is valid from 26 March 2014 to 13 April 2014 exclusively. It seems a good deal as Sony is giving away some accessory in every regions across Europe where the pre-orders started in early March.

Xperia L 15.3.A.1.17 firmware certified on PTCRB

A few days back we saw Xperia L Orange carrier users in Europe getting 15.3.A.1.16 firmware update on their handsets while it was not spotted on global variants of Xperia L. Last update spotted on global Xperia L variants was 15.3.A.1.14 firmware which was a bug fixing update over android 4.2.2 update. A new 15.3.A.1.17 firmware has been certified on PTCRB for Xperia L.

15.3.A.1.17 firmware seems a minor bug fixing update and should be available on global variants of Xperia L soon seeing 15.3.A.1.16 firmware rolled on Xperia L Orange carrier users. Xperia L is on android 4.2.2 at present and it is not clear yet whether Sony has any plans to roll KitKat android 4.4.2 for it or not.

[ UPDATE – May 3 ] Xperia L 15.3.A.1.17 firmware update rolling

Below you can see 15.3.A.1.17 certification for Xperia L C2104, C2105 on PTCRB product page.

We have seen Sony rolling android 4.3 for Xperia M and Xperia M Dual while Xperia L is still kept away from it. It seems now that Xperia L may see KitKat directly whenever it has to come.

Xperia SP 12.1.A.1.201 firmware update rolling – Android 4.3

Sony rolled android 4.3 12.1.A.0.266 firmware update on Xperia SP after a long wait and when it came users were disappointed by the bugs it brought with itself. As a bug fixing update over original android 4.3 firmware update for Xperia SP, we saw 12.1.A.1.192 firmware getting certified for Xperia SP on PTCRB and then SFR French carrier posted the info that 12.1.A.1.192 firmware may roll on carrier device anytime soon but it never came.

Just now Sony has rolled a higher build 12.1.A.1.201 firmware on Xperia SP which is bug fixing update over previous 12.1.A.0.266 firmware. 12.1.A.1.201 firmware is confirmed on regions like Indonesia, USA, Latin America, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Greece, Italy etc. Sony has officially updated 12.1.A.1.201 firmware on Xperia SP software product page, update has been confirmed on all handset versions C5303, C5302, C5306 etc.

12.1.A.1.201 firmware update is available over PC Companion and SUS, OTA notification for 12.1.A.1.201 firmware is not seen yet. Connect your Xperia SP to PC Companion and look for a notification as shown below. 12.1.A.1.201 firmware update size is about 822 MB.

How to install CWM recovery on Xperia C ?

Sony rolled a bug fixing update in form of 16.0.B.2.13 firmware on Xperia C recently which solved the so annoying abnormal battery decrease bug. The major issue on Xperia C is that its bootloader which can’t be unlocked so it restricts the advantage of using custom ROMs which are not based on Sony’s stock kernel framework. For all those users who want to enjoy a bit development on Xperia C, here comes something exciting.

Now all rooted Xperia C users can install CWM recovery on Xperia C. XDA user TacoNikky has just managed to install CWM recovery on Xperia C.You just need to be on latest 16.0.B.2.13 firmware and have root access. If you haven’t updated your Xperia C yet on 16.0.B.2.13 firmware then either update is via PC companion or update manually using some FlashTool.

How to install CWM recovery on Xperia C ?

After updating your Xperia C on 16.0.B.2.13 firmware, Dial *#*#7378423#*#* > service info > software info and check the S1 Boot Version.

If your S1 Boot Version is 2.14.J.2.6, then follow the guide given below.

Download Recovery.img file.
Put the above Recovery.img file in phone’s internal memory.
Download this Mobileunlce MTK Tools app from Play Store > Click on Recovery update > Choose the Recovery.img file and Done.

If you S1 Boot Version is 2.14.J.0.68, then follow the guide given below.

Download the 16.0.B.2.13 firmware ftf from above link and flash it using wmshua perfect flash program. Steps here.
Switch on your phone, download Recovery.img file.
Put Recovery.img file in phone’s internal memory.
Download this Mobileunlce MTK Tools app from Play Store > Click on Recovery update > Choose the Recovery.img file and Done.

Xperia E1 and Xperia E1 Dual features S200 SoC 1.2 GHz dual core processor, Adreno 302 GPU, 3 MP rear cam, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB internal storage and android 4.3 out of the box. Sony has already mentioned that Xperia E1 and Xperia E1 Dual will be getting android 4.4.2 KitKat update but no specific date has been mentioned yet.
