PTCRB Certified Xperia Z1 14.1.G.2.259 Firmware – Minor Carrier Based Update

Xperia Z1 was released with the tagline “Best of Sony” but it’s firmware is still not the best one yet. We have seen a lot more firmware updates on Xperia Z1 since it’s launch, clearly indicating that people at Sony are working on improving it. Recent major update consisted of 14.1.G.2.257 firmware which was ought to solve out many bugs including the most annoying yellow hue tint and noisy images from camera app.

Just now another minor bug fixing 14.1.G.2.259 firmware update is spotted on PTCRB website. It seems are users were complaining after this 14.1.G.2.257 firmware update, Sony has decided to roll another one soon.

Xperia Z1S For T-Mobile USA Picture Leaked Again

A few days back we saw Evleaks leaking an alleged image of Xperia Z1 for T-Mobile USA showing the back panel of Xperia Z1. The Design of phone was a but much different from the design of global Xperia Z1 C6902 and C6903. Just now Evleaks has leaked another image of Xperia Z1 named as Xperia Z1S For T-Mobile USA. Well to be honest no details has been given whether it is Xperia Z1 For T-Mobile USA or an international release of Xperia Z1 F aka Xperia Z1 Mini which was recently launched in Japan only.

Twitter handle of Evleaks has quoted the model as “Xperia Z1S” and is a 2013 Sony Mobile model. Model Xperia Z1S depicts some design changes in itself. 3.5mm headphone jack is centered. Front facing camera in Xperia Z1S is at the left side of Sony logo but if we see in Xperia Z1 global model, it is on right side of Sony Logo.

Previous leak was mentioned as Xperia Z1 for T-Mobile but this leak is quoted as Xperia Z1S, so is it about Xperia Z1 for T-Mobile USA or some other model of Xperia Z1. If we see the previous image, it’s frame suits perfectly to this leaked image of Xperia Z1S.

In past also Sony has given a different name to Xperia model’s release in USA, like Xperia T was named as Xperia TL on AT&T but Xperia Z1 release on T-Mobile was named as Xperia Z1 only.

So till now we are expecting Xperia Z1S, as Xperia Z1 for T-Mobile USA but it can also be the international release of Xperia Z1 F, very less chances though. As soon as any official info on Xperia Z1 release in USA comes on T-Mobile we will let you know..

Xperia Z Ultra 14.1.B.2.257 firmware Major Update Rolling – Improves Touch Screen Response, Battery, Display Calibration

Recently Sony made a statement on their official blog that a major bug fixing android 4.2.2 update is rolling for Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra and also listed the changelog officially. Yesterday we saw 14.1.G.2.257 firmware update on Xperia Z1 which improves Camera, display and power consumption although on our experience of 14.1.G.2.257 firmware, except camera every thing is still buggy on Xperia Z1. It still has yellow hue tint and a lot noise in images taken from its camera app.

Our prediction of 14.1.B.2.257 firmware update to come on Xperia Z Ultra came true. Xperia Z Ultra has been updated to 14.1.B.2.257 firmware, a major update from the previous 14.1.B.1.532 firmware which has many issues like poor touch response, fake SOD issue etc.

Step 1 – Download FlashTool

Download FlashTool version 0.9.13.0 in which Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra has been added.

After downloading above FlashTool, install it.

Step 2 – Download Firmware Ftf file

Download the Xperia Z1 14.1.G.2.257 ftf from below links.

Step 3

After downloading ftf file, Go to location where FlashTool is installed and create a folder named “Source Files” and put the above Xperia Z1 14.1.G.2.257 ftf file in it.

Additional Step :- Install Drivers

Install Drivers from the folder named “FlashTool Drivers” in the location where FlashTool is installed.

Step 4 – Open FlashTool

Now Open FlashTool. See the “Black Lightning icon” at the top left corner. Click on it.

Step 5 – Choose Flashmode from Bootmode chooser

Now choose flashmode from given two options.

Step 6

Now browse to “Source Files” location and select it. You will see the Xperia Z1 14.1.G.2.257 ftf file listed below in left hand side of window under the “firmware section tag”.

Step 7 – Wipe data if you wish

See the right hand side of window under the “Wipe” tag, all three options are checked if, will delete all user data. So if you don’t want to delete all user user data and don’t want a factory reset then you should uncheck them.

Click on “Flash” button.

Step 8 – Preparing files for flashing

After clicking on “Flash” Button in above step, now FlashTool will prepare file “C6902 / 14.1.G.2.257 / Global for flashing.”

Step 9 – Connecting phone in FlashMode.

Now enable USB Debugging on your phone and enable unknown sources option in your Xperia Z1 and switch it off. When prompted the notification of connecting your phone, connect it in flashmode.

Press Volume down button and then insert usb in phone, you will see red and green light blink once, it means phone is connected in flashmode now.

As soon as phone is detected by FlashTool, flashing beings and wait till it is finished.

Step – 10 Disconnect phone

Disconnect phone as soon as flashing is finished. Now reboot your phone. You must have Xperia Z1 14.1.G.2.257 firmware on your phone 🙂

Now go to about phone settings and check whether you have 14.1.G.2.257 firmware read, if yes you have successfully updated your Xperia Z1 C6902 / C6903 to 14.1.G.2.257 firmware, Cheers 🙂

Yesterday we saw 14.1.G.2.257 firmware rolling on Xperia Z1, a major update which fixed a lot many issues on Xperia Z1 like camera noisy images issue, Wi-Fi range, automatic reboot issue, screen calibration etc. 14.1.B.2.257 firmware is also expected on Xperia Z Ultra soon in a day. Just now we spotted notification for Album app version 5.2.A.0.6 as OTA update rolling on both Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra.

Album app version 5.2.A.0.6 OTA update is confirmed on both Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra, all versions. Check in update center app if you have got any notification just like shown below. If you have got it proceed download.

It is an update over previous Album 5.1.A.0.4 app on both phones.

No major changes noticed on Album app version 5.2.A.0.6, a bit more smooth and fast from previous version. X-Reality transition appears more smooth, better colors now 🙂

Xperia Z1 has already hit various markets across the world now since its global launch on 4th Sept at IFA 2013 Berlin. Still North American countries are awaiting its official launch their. A few days back it was reported that Xperia Z1 will come on Bell and Telus ( both Canadian carriers ) in Canada. Just now a document has been leaked which shows pricing and launch date details of Xperia Z1 in Canada.

It is confirmed now that Xperia Z1 will sure come on TELUS Carrier and hopefully will be launched on 15 October Tuesday. No confirmation date for carrier Bell is seen till now but same is expected for it also.

Below leaked document shows that Xperia Z1 will be priced at $725 MTM pricing and $99 on a 2-year Pact. MTM pricing rate is somewhat similar to price on which Xperia Z1 was priced in other markets.

Install Dual Recovery on Xperia Z1 Locked Bootloader – CWM + TWRP

Root is already available on Xperia Z1, a lot many one click root tools for Xperia Z1 are now available.

ClockworkMod ( CWM )or Team Win Recovery Project ( TERP ) or any type of recovery is essentially needed to flash the various mod zip files on your phone, so let’s see how to install it on Xperia Z1.

“Sundown Sources” option is checked. Go to “Settings > Security > Mark option Unknown Sources.

Now click on the file named “install” from the extracted folder.

Now connect your Xperia Z1 to PC, as soon as it is identified, system will install dual recovery on Xperia Z1.

Disconnect your Xperia Z1 and press any key to exit the recovery installation program.

Note :- After entering the CWM for the first time, reboot to system to complete the recovery installation process.

Charging Dock DK31 is priced at £34.99 in UK by Sony, definitely a bit costly.

How to remove EC21 Charging Cable with magnetic connector from Charging Dock DK31 / DK30

Step 1 : Take the Sony Magnetic Charging Dock DK31 and place it upside down after removing its adapter.

Step 2 : See the below pic, notice the space present at both side, just put your finger nail in it and try to pull it upwards.

Xperia Z1 f aka Xperia Z1 Mini Officially Announced in Japan – Specifications Listed

Finally the much rumored Xperia Z1 Mini is announced but hey wait, is it a global announcement, no not yet. The name is not Xperia Z1 Mini but it is Xperia Z1 f SO-02F which has been officially announced today by Sony Japan and will be coming under NTT DoCoMo tag as usual. Xperia Z1 SO-01F also came to existence besides Xperia Z1 f SO-02F today.

Japanese version of Xperia Z1 follows some additional features like 32 GB internal memory, IR blaster as compared to global Xperia Z1 C6902 and C6903/6 versions.

Sony Mobile Japan has listed Xperia Z1 f aka Xperia Z1 Mini specifications and features on their website. As previously rumored Xperia Z1 f will be available in 4 vibrant colors white, black, pink and lime ( yellow ).

Sony Xperia Z1 users are furious now for so many firmware related bug issues. Recently we spotted issues like yellow hue tint, noise appearing in images captured from Z1’s cam, SOD, random reboot and pinch to zoom issue. Mainly are firmware related. Presently Xperia Z1 is on 14.1.G.1.534 firmware. 14.1.G.1.526 and 14.1.G.1.531 firmware are the previous builds.

A few days back we saw an internal leak of about phone screenshot from 14.1.G.2.213 firmware but just now we are informed that there is a strong chances of 14.1.G.2.257 firmware to hit Sony Xperia Z1 soon.

14.1.G.2.257 firmware keeps it on Android 4.2.2 and is still in testing but is soon expected to roll out. Though we can’t say it will 100% roll out but as it has been spotted on running on one of our tipster handset ( Xperia Z1 ) who once confirmed that 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware for Xperia Z1 is about to come and 20 days later it rolled out officially.

So we take the info of Xperia Z1 14.1.G.2.257 firmware update as credible and is likely to be rolling out soon by the end of this week or probably by next week.

Tipster who leaked the alleged screenshot of 14.1.G.2.213 firmware stated that it will bring performance and power optimization tweaks to Xperia Z1, same is expected with this higher 14.1.G.2.257 firmware build.

Water Enters Inside Xperia Z Screen – Dissembled, Screen Backlight Recovered to Work

Sony Xperia Z, the first of its kind phone of Xperia Z family elder one from all was launched with many great features the then but now it has been so long since it has been in market. Xperia Z sports IP57 certification which makes it water resistance and do has good water resistance abilities, tested myself. But some Xperia Z users from time to time are complaining about Xperia Z water resistance failure and such one case we are reporting today.

Water Enters Inside Xperia Z Screen

Due to back glass panel of Xperia Z being lifted up, water entered inside the Xperia Z screen and LDC backlight was dimmed and not working properly. XDA user “coolingmy” dissembled his Xperia Z in order to make it function properly and fortunately he succeeded, check it out.

Xperia Z was dissembled by himself and he reached out to screen component to make it dry. All of this was done at home from manual tools. Keep in mind do not perform this with your phone, it will void the warranty and can make your phone non-functional forever.

Water was dried out using a hair dryer.

Amount of water inside screen was less this time but it was still there…

He put the Xperia Z on his screen side at bottom and left it as it as for night and when he saw it in the morning, water was gone almost and screen was working properly almost.

A water resistance adhesive was used to stick the back panel again to the phone.

Many Xperia Z users questions the water resistance ability of it but keep in mind it is a water resistance phone only not water proof, do not push it further from its limits.

At the very right moment it was officially unveiled on 4 Sept at IFA 2013 Berlin, it drew certain criticism and some applause like all new flagship device attracts. Well that’s normal, but now as tech reviewers are criticizing it for poor viewing angles and display showing yellow hue, it has become an issue for all Xperia Z1 users. So wanted to know how well your Xperia Z1 is built, is it strong enough to take some fall, let’s see.

Xperia Z1 sets in a frame made of aluminium and just like Xperia Z we have here shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass on rear and back side of Xperia Z1 which sets it in a glass-metal casing. It do have a stronger build as when compared to Xperia Z but is it good enough, confused let’ see.

Sony Xperia Z1 Drop Test Video

Folks at Android Authority have put up a video which shows Sony Xperia Z1 drop test. First check out the video then we will see what happened to it.

Xperia Z1 was dropped three times during the test. Dropped at a height of around 5 feet. In the first fall on it’s back, the SIM card slot flap opened up and the only piece of damage was noticed in top left corner near camera lens which a bit part of glass ripped of.

In the second fall, a vertical on speaker sides, both SD card slot and USB slot flaps opened up and a few scratches on metal casing.

In the third fall, the one on front side of phone, nothing much happened to screen rather then some scratches. Well the build of Xperia Z1 seems great.

But the main question, did Xperia Z1 turn up after falling 3 times ?

Answer is NO…

Xperia Z1 didn’t turn on for full functioning but the screen lighted up with blue color and some purple hue on left side, making it nonfunctional.

So when it came to the build quality, pretty much satisfied but the most important area of concern that Xperia Z1 working after falls too, unfortunately it fails in that area. Impact must have a great effect on its inner framework.

Xperia Z C6603 10.3.1.A.2.74 firmware Update Rolled Out – Carrier Based Update

A new 10.3.1.A.2.74 firmware has been certified on PTCRB site for Xperia Z C6603, nothing updated for Xperia Z C6602 yet, hope to be done soon. Recently a few days back minor 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware update rolled on Xperia Z both LTE and HSPA+ versions over previous major 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware update.

10.3.1.A.2.74 firmware is a minor update ( Android 4.2.2 only ) and expected to fix some bugs only nothing new. PTCRB has updated the list on their site on 1st Oct.

10.3.1.A.2.74 firmware was seen before it was certified on the Xperia Z C6603 which belong to one of the XDA member. Let’s hope 10.3.1.A.2.74 firmware rolls globally but till now it is expected that it will come only on certain carriers.

Just now we have got info that 10.3.1.A.2.74 firmware update has been rolled out and it’s specifically a carrier based branded update. Confirmed for 3 AT and 3 DK and possibly will also roll for 3 IE, 3 SE and 3 UK carriers.
