You need rooted Xperia handset running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmware and custom recovery installed. Make sure you backup your current ROM via recovery before flashing the mod.

How to Flash?

Download the concerned zip file.
You must remove the ARM folder from System/Priv-app/TeleService – Must STEP
Reboot into recovery > Flash the zip > Reboot.
Navigate to settings > call settings > enable call recording.

Xperia Z2 23.2.A.1.62 firmware update rolling

Xperia Z2 23.2.A.1.62 firmware update is now rolling but only on limited carriers like T-Mobile AT, Telekom.de, Cosmote in regions like Austria, Croatia, Germany, Greece, Macedonia, Netherlands, Poland, and Slovak Republic. This build has already been rolled on Xperia “Z3” series.

23.2.A.1.62 firmware was certified for both Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet and now also rolling on Xperia Z2 Tablet SGP521 on the same carriers. It is not clear for the time being whether this update will hit global variants of Xperia Z2 series or not.

Sony Mobile has officially confirmed that a new Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update in the form of 23.1.A.1.28 firmware is now rolling globally for Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet.

23.1.A.1.28 firmware was first spotted rolling for Xperia Z2 yesterday which brought new recent app close button and Sony has officially posted a detailed changelog of 23.1.A.1.28 firmware.

Besides software improvement and enhancement, following features are included in the 23.1.A.1.28 firmware update:

Ensured the lock screen/notification bar doesn’t indicate “no service” when the device has coverage
Added a Sony feature; bringing back the “close-all-button” in the activity menu, so you can easily close all apps at once
Unblocked devices with server policies (such as Exchange Active Sync for e-mail), to enable the new Lollipop lock-screen notifications
Ensured the LED light is lit across all sound modes – and no longer offset by “silent”
Made the necessary fixes to enable the easy movement of content from internal memory to external microSD card (something we saw affecting a few devices)
Improved messaging functionality in Ultra stamina mode – some conversations could not be opened before in Ultra stamina mode

Earlier today we saw 23.1.A.0.740 firmware rolling for Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 carrier handsets in Europe and now a new 23.1.A.1.28 firmware has been certified for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet. 23.1.A.1.28 firmware moves the current build from 23.1.A.0.xxx to 23.1.A.1.xx.

23.1.A.1.28 firmware is certified for Xperia Z2 D6503 and Xperia Z2 Tablet SGP521 only for the time being. It seems to be a major bug fixing update (Android 5.0.2) hopefully. Let’s see if it rolls for global variants for Xperia Z2 series or not.

How to flash Xperia Z2/Z3 Lollipop 23.1.A.0.690 ftf using Flashtool Manually ?

Sony rolled Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update on Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet globally yesterday and many users from different regions around the world are now confirming it. So far only Xperia Z3 series and Xperia Z2 series have got Lollipop update.

Yesterday we explained how to download Lollipop firmware using XperiFirm tool, if you haven’t got it yet and today we will let you know how to flash manually Lollipop firmware ftf on your Xperia device.

How to flash Xperia Z2 Lollipop 23.1.A.0.690 ftf?

XperiFirm Tool is used to download Lollipop (or any ordinary firmware) firmware bundle and then creating “firmware ftf” using Flashtool (steps mentioned in this tutorial, use XperiFirm tool if you haven’t got firmware update yet via PC Companion or OTA or you just need ftf file).

How to download Lollipop firmware via XperiFirm Tool and creating ftf using Flashtool?

Now we will use Flashtool to flash manually firmware ftf.

Facts to know:

Flashing firmware ftf file on your Xperia device doesn’t void warranty.
Flashing ftf file doesn’t require unlocking bootloader of your Xperia device.
No root needed.

Pre-requisites:

Xperia device.
USB cable.
PC.
Firmware ftf file.

You should do?

Take a backup of all your data via PC Companion.

NOTE: We will explain the tutorial taking Xperia Z2 and flashing 23.1.A.0.690 ftf on it. Steps are similar for every Xperia handset on any firmware.

Step 1 – Download Flashtool

Download Flashtool version 0.9.18.5 (or the latest available) from here.

After downloading above Flashtool, install it.

On opening it, it may ask you to move files stored in F:\Flashtool\firmwares to F:\Users\PC NAME\.flashTool\firmware (Do move the ftf stored if asked to do so).

Wait then till it syncs the devices list (if it don’t syncs because you are not connected to internet, then leave it. It is not mandatory to do sync).

Step 2 – Download Firmware Ftf file

For D6502 INDIA region

Download D6502_23.1.A.0.690_INDIA_GIZMOBOLT.ftf

Step 3 – Put your above download firmware ftf in “F:\Users\PC NAME\.flashTool\firmware” folder

Additional Step :- Install Drivers

Install Drivers from the folder named “Flashtool Drivers” in the location where Flashtool is installed OR just install PC Companion on your PC and connect your device with it and then remove it.

Step 4 – Open FlashTool

Now Open Flashtool. See the “Black Lightning Thunder icon” at the top left corner. Click on it.

Step 5 – Choose Flashmode from Bootmode chooser

Now choose flashmode from given two options.

Step 6 – You will now automatically see your download firmware ftf file in the “firmware” section (left hand side) of Flashtool window. Select your firmware.

Step 7 – Wipe data if you wish

See the right hand side of window under the “Wipe” tag, all three options are checked if, will delete all user data.

So if you don’t want to delete all user user data and don’t want a factory reset then you should uncheck them.

Wiping full data is recommended, though (if you have backup).

Do it: Click on “Flash” button.

Step 8 – Preparing files for flashing

After clicking on “Flash” Button in above step, now FlashTool will prepare firmware ftf selected for flashing.

Step 9 – Connecting phone in FlashMode.

Important: Now enable USB Debugging on your phone and enable unknown sources option in your Xperia device and switch it off.

When prompted the notification of connecting your phone, connect it in flashmode (as chosen above)

How to do ? Press Volume down button and then insert usb in phone, you will see red and green light blink once, it means phone is connected in flashmode now.

As soon as phone is detected by Flashtool, flashing beings and wait till it is finished.

WARNING: Do not cancel the process in between once flashing has started or it will result in boot loop or device not booting up at all.

Disconnect phone as soon as flashing is finished.

Step – 10 Disconnect phone

Now reboot your phone. First reboot after the update will take some time.

You must have Android 5.0.2 Lollipop 23.1.A.0.690 firmware installed on your Xperia Z2 now.

Sony is finally done with rolling first script of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update on Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet in Baltic and Nordic regions for the LTE variants. While many regions and HSPA+ variants of the device has not got the update yet, we are still waiting for the second script of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update to roll out quickly.

Sony rolled Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update on Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet today with lots of new features and redesigned UI. It seems image enhancement files are missing from Xperia Z2 Lollipop 23.1.A.0.690 firmware, as reported by XDA recog. dev niaboc79.

It is weird how come Sony miss them, well they are needed for X-Reality Engine and Super-Vivid mode to work properly. Check in your Sony Album app, whether it is working or not.

Download the Image enhancement fix file from below link. You need rooted Xperia Z2 on Lollipop to install this fix. It is not a flashable zip file.

After downloading the above file, extract them into /system. (there should be in total 4 files)
Set rw- r– r– permissions for all 4 files.
Now move files to system/etc folder and reboot.

Check the images below with no image enhancement, X-Reality On, Vivid mode on respectively.

Yesterday Sony rolled Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update on Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact in form of 23.1.A.0.690 firmware build and now Android 5.0.2 is officially rolling on Xperia Z2 also. Sony has updated the same 23.1.A.0.690 firmware build on Xperia Z2 also.

Android 5.0.2 update on Xperia Z2 is confirmed rolling in Nordics & Baltic regions, specifically confirmed in Sweden, Norway, Denmark. It features old 3.4.0 Linux kernel. Update is confirmed on Xperia Z2 LTE D6503 variants, not seen on HSPA+ D6502 variants yet.

Xperia Z2 23.0.1.A.3.12 & 23.0.1.A.4.44 firmware for Xperia Z2 Tablet rolling

A new 23.0.1.A.3.12 firmware hit Xperia Z2 handsets ( D6503 ) in Taiwan region exclusively and 23.0.1.A.4.44 firmware update hit Xperia Z2 Tablet in Taiwan region on VMo TW operator. Another firmware 23.0.1.A.4.30 was spotted rolling for Xperia Z2 Tablet recently.

It is not clear yet whether above mentioned firmware updates will hit global variants of Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet, for the time being they are only available for carrier handsets in Taiwan only.

Xperia Z2 23.0.1.A.3.9 firmware rolling for carriers – Android 4.4.4 update

Sony has officially rolled 23.0.1.A.0.167 firmware update for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 tablet which brought Android 4.4.4 for them. Both devices now enjoy similar firmware features like Xperia Z3. It seems that now Sony is rolling 23.0.1.A.3.9 firmware update for Xperia Z2 carrier handsets ( Android 4.4.4 update ).

Xperia Z2 23.0.1.A.3.9 firmware is confirmed rolling for O2 carrier in Germany. We are not expecting this firmware to hit regular Xperia Z2 series variants in any case.

Xperia Z3, Z2, Z1 running AOSP Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM Video shown by Sony officially

Sony has come up with a video where android 5.0 Lollipop AOSP ROM is shown running on Xperia Z3, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z1. As Google has already released the source code for android 5.0 Lollipop so Sony will be rolling the same on their all Xperia “Z” series devices from early January 2015.

Sony will soon be providing the necessary android 5.0 Lollipop binary files so that developers can start making android 5.0 ROM for unlocked Xperia devices. AOSP device configuration is already available for Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z2, coming soon for Xperia Z3.

Sony is giving a chance to some Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact users to test beta version of their android 5.0 Lollipop release.

Currently program only available for Sweden users with carrier “3” ( 3Beta ), it seems a good move by the company to get an early feedback of the firmware from the customers before the official rollout begins.

Xperia Z2, Z2 Tablet 23.0.1.A.3.9 firmware certified – Android 4.4.4 Update

Another 23.0.1.A.3.9 firmware has been certified for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet which will bring android 4.4.4 update for the said devices. Previously we saw 23.0.1.A.0.167 firmware getting certified and 23.0.1.A.0.32 firmware getting leaked which showed that Xperia Z2 will have UI like Xperia Z3 on android 4.4.4 ( though anything can changes on final release of update ).

Sony has already updated Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra to android 4.4.4, Xperia T2 Ultra Dual to android 4.4.3 while Xperia Z2 series is still waiting for android 4.4.4 KitKat update.

After a long wait Android 4.4.4 23.0.1.A.0.167 firmware has been certified for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet. Sony first updated Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra on android 4.4.4 version and later on updated Xperia T2 Ultra family on android 4.4.3 version though it was weird that the then flagship model Xperia Z2 was left out in cold without an update.

23.0.1.A.0.167 firmware is certified for all models of Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet globally which clearly means the roll out is very near now. If you noticed Sony has adopted a new firmware number series i.e. 23.0.X.X.X.XXX for Xperia Z2 series now which clearly means a major update over older Android 4.4.2 17.1.2.A.0.314 firmware and may be a new UI like Xperia Z3.

A new 17.1.2.A.0.323 firmware has hit carrier dependent Xperia Z2 handset in UK and Germany on Vodafone carrier. 17.1.2.A.0.323 firmware is only available on LTE variant for the device for the time being and not spotted on regular variants of Xperia Z2.

17.1.2.A.0.323 firmware brings an option of video settings in call app though it is not working as tapping on it gives no result. It is not clear whether the 17.1.2.A.0.323 firmware will be released globally or not.

Sony is rolling a minor update in form of 17.1.2.A.0.314 firmware on Xperia Z2 D6503 LTE. 17.1.2.A.0.314 firmware keeps Xperia Z2 on Android 4.4.2 only ( Android 4.4.4 update is still missing ), confirmed rolling via PC Companion in regions like Russia, Iran, Korea.

No major changes spotted in this 17.1.2.A.0.314 firmware update, it seems a security patch fixing update as Towel Root exploit fails to root this firmware for the time being. Connect your device to PC Companion and look for an update notification to update.

Xperia Z2 17.1.1.A.0.438 firmware update rolling – Improve Tap to wake up feature

17.1.1.A.0.438 firmware was certified for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet in mid June on PTCRB and now it seems 17.1.1.A.0.438 firmware has started hitting Xperia Z2 in South East Asia region as reported by an user at XDA. At present Xperia Z2 users are suffering from many issues like overheating, touch response issues, laggy camera in 4K mode.
