Google has just released the first developer preview of next version of Android OS i.e. Android O. You will see more developer preview versions of Android O coming over next few months till Google I/O May 2017.

Android O introduces number of new features like Background Limits (automatic limits on what apps can do in background), Notification Channels (new app-defined categories for notification content), Autofill APIs, PIP (Picture in Picture) for handsets and new windowing features, Font resources in XML, Adaptive icons, etc.

For the time being there is only 1 Android O Wallpaper in the developer preview images, 2880 × 2560 px resolution.

Moto G5 features Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 Octa core-processor, Adreno 505 GPU, 5″ FHD IPS Display, 144.3 x 73 x 9.5 mm in dimensions weighing 145 g. It features 13 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera. It has 16 and 32 GB Internal memory variants with  2 and 3 GB RAM models.

Xperia Weather Beta 1.3.A.1.16 App Update brings new Clock & Weather widget

Xperia Weather App has got a new beta update in the form of 1.3.A.1.16 which brings new Clock & Weather widget. It is a major update with some new features and bugs fixing along with performance enhancement.

The new widget allows you to access the main clock app by just tapping on clock part of it on the left side, whereas tapping on weather part on the right side will take you to Xperia Weather app directly.

– Fixed UI mess in some languages that were caused due to minus sign being incorrectly localized to languages in question
– Added explanation why some text is in English despite another language being selected in cases where localized text is not available

Xperia X Concept 38.3.1.A.0.74 firmware update rolled – Supports AptX

Sony has rolled a new concept N4F26T14 build 38.3.1.A.0.74 firmware for Xperia X which brings AptX support for users on concept experimental track. You can now enjoy hi-res Bluetooth sound using the AptX code if your hi-fi equipment/headphone supports it.

38.3.1.A.0.74 firmware update (Android 71.1.) also brings latest March Android Security Patch (patch level 2017-03-05) to the device. Stable update will follow soon.

Budget Smartphone Sony Xperia L1 launched with 5.5″ 720p HD display

Sony has announced a new budget smartphone Xperia L1. It features 5.5″ 720p HD display with loop surface design, narrow borders and a smooth rounded frame. Earlier this year Sony has already announced Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra.

Sony Xperia L1 is powered by MediaTek MT6737T chipset (Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 processor), Mali-T720 MP2 GPU. It will feature Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. It has 16GB eMMC internal memory, microSDXC support (up to 256GB) and 2GB RAM. It will be launched in Single and Dual SIM variants.

Sony Xperia L1 features 13 MP rear camera with F2.2 lens, Autofocus, ISO 3200, , 3x Clear Image Zoom and a 5 MP front camera 24mm wide-angle lens F2.2. It weighs 180g and has dimensions of 151 x 74 x 8.7 mm.

Sony has put 2620mAh battery with Qnovo Adaptive Charging and Stamina Mode. It has USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 4.2.

Sony patents NFC Wireless phone-to-phone charging technology

Sony has recently filed a patent at US Patent and Trademark Office, regarding “Configuration of Data and Power Transfer in Near Field Communications” which may allow wireless phone-to-phone charging and data sharing.

Patent application number US 20170064283 based on the research done by James Richard Milne, True Xiong, and Charles McCoy states a method for wirelessly transferring data and power between consumer electronic (CE) devices.

It is not clearly mentioned for the time being how the technology will work. For the time being Sony has enabled NFC technology in many Sony Xperia smartphones which is mainly used for data sharing and pairing devices like portable speakers, smartphones, etc.

As per the patent, the consumer electronic (CE) device will house an antenna system. It will atleast have two antenna, one for transferring power wirelessly and the other one for the data transfer.

As in case of Wi-Fi hotpost, we search for available netwoks for data trasnfer, this antenna system will search for wirless power transfer to pair with another compatible device.

If this technology in future is enabled in the Xperia smartphones then it will be seen as a new method of charging batteries, however the concern for harmful radition being released remains.

Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe ZS570KL WW_ 5.14.44.1898 Android 7.0 Nougat update rolling

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe ZS570KL (8996), Snapdragon 820 variant is now getting Android 7.0 Nougat update, software version WW_ 5.14.44.1898. Update is released as an OTA for the time being and soon will be pushed to all the devices in different regions.

Asus has removed “PC Suite” and “Share Link” from the update. Go to Settings > About Phone > System Update to look for WW_ 5.14.44.1898 update notification.

ZenFone 3 Deluxe ZS570KL Android 7.0 Nougat update

Android 7.0 Nougat standard features like split-screen mode, doze mode, customizable quick settings are present in this update.

Major changelog of the update is as follows:

  • ZenUI upgrade
  • Improved NFC performance
  • Quick Settings supports multiple pages
  • Launcher will turn to default launcher after upgrade for the users who are using “easy mode” of the Asus launcher

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is getting Android 7.0 Nougat update, software version G925FXXU5EQBG (for one of the variant), it seems as reported by many users on XDA. Users of Samsung Galaxy S6 edge (SM-G925F) reported the update in Europe (in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Norway with Swisscomm). Vodafone has also released the update in UK. For Galaxy S6 Android 7.0 NOugat software version is G920FXXU5EQBG.

Android 7.0 Nougat G925FXXU5EQBG update is available as OTA, size 1.4 GB. Update brings new UX (called Samsung Experience), improved usability of the notification feature, quick settings and multi-window. Samsung Cloud is also available now in this update.

Sony Xperia XA1, Sony’s bet in mid-range smartphone segment is powered by MediaTek Helio P20 Octa Core 64bit processor with 3 GB RAM and has edge-to-edge HD (720p) 5” screen display.
