Sony ENDS Xperia C, Xperia SP Android Update support officially

From a long time there was no word from Sony on the Android 4.2.2+ upgrade for Xperia C and Android 4.3+ upgrade for Xperia SP well now Sony has officially confirmed that both Xperia C and Xperia SP will no longer be updated anymore, they have reached their EoL ( end-of-life term ) of android updates.

Sony last updated Xperia SP to android 4.3 as when Xperia V and T was also given update but Sony Xperia SP Software update page says “Latest & Final Version, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean“. Xperia SP was launched with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean in 2013 which is undoubtedly the best 720p HD display mid range Xperia handset of 2013.

No KitKat for Xperia SP

Below you can see the snapshot from the Xperia SP software update page.

No Android 4.3 & KitKat for Xperia C

Sony launched its first MediaTek SoC phone in form of Xperia C in 2013 with android 4.2 out of the box and unfortunately now it will remain only on Android 4.2 only with only 3 minor updates till now since launch. Xperia C Software update page now reads as “Latest & Final Version, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean”.

We were really expecting from Sony atleast updating Xperia SP on Android 4.4 KitKat as when we have seen Xperia E1 getting a better treatment from Sony in terms of update. Xperia M saw Android 4.3 update while Xperia C was not updated further.

Well that’s unfortunate now as Sony has ended support for Xperia C and Xperia SP officially. So users what are you going to do now, moving over to another handset or now its time to try for KitKat custom ROMS. What are your plans, let us know. Drop your comments below.

  • It's actually a very bad news. What about the people who had bought Sony Xperia C recently with an expectation that it too gonna be upgraded.

  • Meanwhile Motorola updated Razr HD (2012 - Android 4.0) to 4.4.2.

I really liked Xperia SP, it's a very good smartphone, but the attention that Sony gave to it was disappointing. only ONE major update and A LOT of minors updates.

Unfortunately it's time to move on.

  • Nunca mais compro Sony, isso é uma falta de respeito com o consumidor! Esse foi meu primeiro e último Smartphone da Sony!!

  • Ye shi h.. Ek to phone bhi lo upper se in sony walo ki chutiya panti free.. Vary bad services sony disappointed all xperia c users... They make reasons to move on peoples to another telecom company...

  • well, it's not the end of the world for me as an Xperia C user.. Am still & will be a big fan of SONY & will continue buying their phones coz they were built to last & I find it really stupid to abandon a well known company that builds high quality devices just because they didn't give the latest OS for my old device.. If you are so attached to operating systems & want a Kitkat or even expecting to have your hands on Android L just sell your old damn phone & get a new SONY.

    • Hello when you spend 17.5k for a decent hardware 6-7 months back... You expect it to last and get updates... How can you gurantee support for any devices of Sony when they can do such a thing with a phone having hardware good enough to run updates.... HTC and Moto are much better for software updates and HTC's hardware is as good as Sony

  • Sucks. I'm going to use custom ROMs now, but its a shame they're not made to use Sony's custom apps like walkman and such. Last Sony phone for me. I love the xperia SP, yet the attention for it was really horrible. Normally an update to 4.3 in september/october which we received only somewhere in spring. Normally an update to 4.4 which we will never receive..
