Android Wear 5.1.1 update to give Wi-Fi support, Wrist Gestures to Sony SmartWatch 3

Google has officially announced a major update to Android Wear which includes lots of new features. It is in news that Google will soon roll out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update on Nexus devices and then we can expect the Android Wear 5.1.1 update to come to Sony SmartWatch 3.

Sony has already launched Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Update on Xperia Z2 & Xperia Z3 series, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra. Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia C3 and older Xperia “Z” series are yet to receive Lollipop update.

What’s new in Android Wear 5.1.1 update?

Always-on Apps – Now apps installed on your smartwatch will remain active even if screen goes to sleep, it will save power as you don’t have to open the app again everytime.

Wi-Fi Support – Sony SmartWatch 3 has Wi-Fi connectivity option, so now connecting SW3 to a Wi-Fi network will enable you to send messages, use apps; no matter where your phone is (it must have data connection), so no need for a permanent Bluetooth connection for pairing it.

New launcher is added – Tap on the screen and you are good to go.

New Adjustable font sizes and easier emojis; now draw them directly on your SmartWatch 3.

Wrist Gesture – Flick your wrist to see the notification.

This new AndroidWear 5.1.1 Update will arrive on all seven Android Wear watches starting with LG Watch Urbane.

    • This update has not come yet on any device. It will come soon as soon as it starts rolling. Afterall Moto is beating Google nowdays when rolling updates is considered.
