Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra 14.2.A.1.114 firmware certified – Major Update

It has only been a week since Sony rolled officially android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware update for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra globally which brought new features like “Xperia” themes, smooth UI, improved camera etc. on both handsets but now it looks like that Sony is planning another major update in form of android 4.3 14.2.A.1.114 firmware on both handsets. A few days back we posted that 14.2.A.1.XXX firmware is about to come and here it is surfaced.

14.2.A.1.114 firmware has been certified on PTCRB website for both Xperia Z1 version C6902 / C6903 / C6906 and Xperia Z Ultra version C6802 / C6833 / C6843 / C6806. 14.2.A.1.114 changes the configuration from 14.2.A.0.XXX which clearly indicates that it will be a significant major bug fixing update.

Sony recently rolled Android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware on Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra and many new features introduced like “Xperia Themes” and Sony Smart Camera app on Xperia Z Ultra. Till now it has the smoothest UI in the firmware rolled by Sony. Sony finally rolled out much awaited android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware update on both Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra, though it’s a nice update with some cool “Xperia Themes”, smooth UI and improved camera functionality still users are facing many bugs on it. Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra users are reporting to us many bugs which we will discuss in this post later. First let me answer your question, is the next update for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra due soon ? Yes it is.

Just now we found that android 4.3 14.2.A.1.XXX firmware update will soon hit Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra as a big fixing update over previous  android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware update. At present 14.2.A.1.XXX firmware is in testing, most likely to come very soon but we can’t 100% confirm that the same build will be rolled out, it may happen that a higher build to 14.2.A.1.XXX firmware will be rolled out ( if something changes during testing ).

Let’s talk about bugs faced by many users in Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware update.

  • Many users are getting this error when you navigate to “Sound enhancements -> Settings”, it shows “Unfortunately, Sound enhancements has stopped.”
  • Battery backup on standby mode has decreased a lot now.
  • RAM consumption has increased after this update.

  • One-Hand Keyboard settings in there, so you can type with only hand ( right ).
  • Windows Tethering option is there which allows Xperia Z1 to be paired with Windows 8.1+ PC via Bluetooth. You can connect to the mobile network from your PC without any further settings on your phone.
  • Movies app 5.3.A.0.18 version, Walkman app 8.0.A.0.4 version, Xperia Home 6.1.1.A.0.8 version and Album app version 5.2.A.1.22 though for some apps higher builds were seen in leaked Xperia Z android 4.3 firmware.

Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition Listed for $649 in US Play Store – Unlocked GSM/UMTS/HSPA+/LTE

As most us know that Google has started selling high-end devices by other manufacturers such as HTC, Samsung (other than Nexus) as Google Play Edition(GPE) Devices, which comes with latest firmware version along with NO bloatware or custom skins from manufacturers. Google have recently added 2 new devices to that list. One being an offspring of Sony Xperia family namely Xperia Z Ultra and the other one being LG G pad 8.3. This may come as surprise for many Xperia fans, Sony  has just launched “Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition”. Yes you read it correctly, the first Snapdragon 800 powered device from Sony is now officially listed in US Google Play Store for $649, a contract free version. Previously we have seen Galaxy S4 and HTC One’s Google Play Edition and now Sony has introduced its first Google Play Edition device running android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition is available ( shipping free, Black color only ) with unlocked GSM/UMTS/HSPA+/LTE (700, 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100, 2600 MHz) bands, pretty much available to US users only for the time being. The best thing about Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition is that it will retain Sony’s trademark features like Bravia Engine, TRILUMINOS Display and X-Reality for Mobile and Exmor RS sensor it present in camera, so you retain all features of Xperia Z Ultra except the UI which will be much more like Nexus devices now.

Fredrik Ekstrand, Head of Software Product Management at Sony Mobile made a statement on Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition :

“Bringing our first Google Play edition device to the US market represents a milestone in Sony’s on-going developer outreach and work with Google’s Android Open Source Project” says Fredrik. “It’s something our users have been asking for, and now we’re responding – we’re excited to gauge reaction to the latest Android version running natively on our unique product’s hardware”

Now you don’t need to wait for android updates from Sony on Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition as it will come with android 4.4 KitKat though recently Google rolled bug fixing Android 4.4.1 and android 4.4.2 updates for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 and official android 4.3 update from Sony on Xperia Z Ultra is still due though android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware was certified recently.

This is a very good step from Sony Mobile in building good relations with Google. Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition is a bit late though, Samsung and HTC introduced their flagship devices on Google Play Edition very earlier than Sony but something is better than nothing, finally Sony came up. Hoping some day we might see Sony Google Nexus edition also.

A few days back we saw Walkman app version 8.0.A.0.3 update being rolled on Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z and ZL devices. Being a major Walkman app update it brought new playlist features like  “newly added songs” etc. and just now a new Walkman app version 8.0.A.0.4 minor update has been rolled out. We just spotted it on our Xperia Z1 C6902. Walkman app version 8.0.A.0.4 update is confirmed rolling on Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z and ZL so far. It’s only a minor bug fixing update as the build number has just increased by a decimal point. Check for a notification in update center as shown below.

All variants of Xperia Z1 C6902/C6903/C6906/C6943 have been certified with Android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware on PTCRB website yesterday. As per our sources the Android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware is still in testing and should come within 1-2 week before the employees leave for Christmas Holiday.

Another android 4.3 14.2.C.X.X firmware build is running on mysterious Xperia Z1 C6916 device which is expected to be unreleased LTE version of Xperia Z1 in US.

Meanwhile same Android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware has also been certified for Xperia Z Ultra C6843 on PTCRB website, though no firmware has been certified for Xperia Z Ultra C6802/3 yet. Yesterday we saw that Android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 OTA update notification on a Xperia Z Ultra ( may be a developer handset ).

As when every Xperia user is waiting for android 4.3 to be officially rolled out, it seems something fishy has come up. An XDA user
Zack0905 claims that he has got android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware OTA Update on his Xperia Z Ultra. Though nothing else specific he has posted regarding this 14.2.A.0.290 firmware update on Xperia Z Ultra except that he has unlocked device and so can’t update it. WE STILL DOUBT THE ANDROID VERSION.

Original poster has posted the OTA update 14.2.A.0.290 package which he downloaded on his Xperia Z Ultra. Yesterday was saw leaked screenshots of Xperia ZL Android 4.3 10.4.B.X.XXX firmware and a lot ago we found via handset detection that 14.2.A.0.2XX build is running as Android 4.3 on both Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra and more specifically 14.2.A.0.290 is running now as testing version. As android 4.4 plans for Xperia devices confirmed by Sony just now stating that Xperia Z, ZL, Z Ultra, Z1 and Tablet Z are the first batch of devices which will get android 4.3 KitKat update soon, though no ETA is given. As Sony promised earlier about rolling android 4.3 jelly bean update soon, here comes the official news.

Sony Mobile has just now confirmed that Android 4.3 Coming in December on Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z, ZL, ZR, Tablet Z, SP. As Sony said that some devices will be updated directly from android 4.1.2 to android 4.3 so the next batch of devices getting android 4.3 will be Xperia T, TX and Xperia V. Though it is a big deal if see android 4.3 coming for all above mentioned devices in December only.

Most awaited news from Sony Mobile has just came up about android 4.4 KitKat update on Xperia devices, it is now CONFIRMED that Android 4.4 KitKat for Xperia Z, ZL, Z Ultra, Z1, Tablet Z will come very soon thought it is not expected this year obviously due to scheduling of android 4.3 update in December.

Sony Mobile as announced on their official blog that Xperia Z, ZL, Z Ultra, Z1, Tablet Z will be getting android 4.4 KitKat updates in future though no ETA has be given yet. Strange to see that Xperia ZR has not been named yet, may be they will do in future or they won’t it still remains a mystery.

Xperia Z Ultra 14.1.B.2.257 firmware Major Update Rolling – Improves Touch Screen Response, Battery, Display Calibration

Recently Sony made a statement on their official blog that a major bug fixing android 4.2.2 update is rolling for Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra and also listed the changelog officially. Yesterday we saw 14.1.G.2.257 firmware update on Xperia Z1 which improves Camera, display and power consumption although on our experience of 14.1.G.2.257 firmware, except camera every thing is still buggy on Xperia Z1. It still has yellow hue tint and a lot noise in images taken from its camera app.

Our prediction of 14.1.B.2.257 firmware update to come on Xperia Z Ultra came true.  Xperia Z Ultra has been updated to 14.1.B.2.257 firmware, a major update from the previous 14.1.B.1.532 firmware which has many issues like poor touch response, fake SOD issue etc.

Already using two cases from Noreve, we just the love the quality of leather they use to make the cases, perfect it. Don’t wash it using water although you can use some leather cleaning liquid.

Pros

  • Leather quality very good.
  • All ports accessible on phone.
  • Light weight.
  • Very durable for daily usage.
  • Hand made stitched Italian leather case, life time warranty 🙂

Cons

  • Very costly but quality has it’s cost. The prices are mentioned with all taxes included. So with the prices you have to remove 20% so it is 40€ .
  • Scratch marks appears on leather stuff if handled rough. But that is user fault only.
  • Leather smell comes for some days. But it’s normal as real leather smells obviously.

We have also used leather cases from Roxfit also, the quality of leather case from Noreve is the best, definitely premium.

Xperia Z Ultra has just now received 14.1.B.1.532 firmware update, a day after it was certified on PTCRB. 14.1.B.1.532 firmware update is bug fixing update over previous 14.1.B.1.526 firmware. This is the second update in the month on September on Xperia Z Ultra. Xperia Z Ultra has been facing some serious screen issues, fake hang issue SOD ( sleep of death ) as reported by many users.

Fake Hang and SOD issue on Xperia Z Ultra are the serious ones and we expected that 14.1.B.1.532 firmware update will sort them out but unfortunately many users are still reporting the same issue. It’s not proper SOD issue, it’s like a Fake SOD issue occurring on phone. Bluetooth transfer speed increased a bit. Battery back up almost same. Home transition a bit laggy for us.

Xperia Z Ultra 14.1.B.1.532 firmware certified by PTCRB

Recently we saw 14.1.B.1.526  firmware being rolled on Xperia Z Ultra C6802 HSPA+ version, now even LTE version of Xperia Z Ultra is being listed in UK market and now a new firmware has been certified for all versions Xperia Z Ultra. 14.1.B.1.532 firmware is the latest firmware which is certified now.

PTCRB yesterday listed 14.1.B.1.532 firmware for Xperia Z Ultra HSPA+ C6802 and C6806, C6833, C6843. This is the first time any firmware has been certified for Xperia Z Ultra C6843.

  • Screen Colors are more bright in this update, looks better saturated then before.
  • Performance fixing and lag fixing update.
  • Not very much changes noticed.
  • Sound enhancement settings has got a bug, just noticed.
