Sony launches Facebook, Twitter app for SmartEyeglass – Official Extensions

Today Sony launched official Facebook and Twitter app extensions for Sony SmartEyeglass exclusively which could mean that official launch of Sony SmartEyeGlass is near ( but just a speculations only for the time being ). These two extensions will let you see Facebook and Twitter notifications in your smart accessory display.

After downloading the app, it will automatically be in use with your smart accessory and can be accessed via Sony Smart Connect app. It works with Sony SmartEyeGlass. Both extensions with Android devices running Android 2.1+.

Both the app are using new Sony Android Lollipop Material Design UI, navigation bar is new and status bar is also new with new network sign just like stock Android and may be even colored with some Sony apps. First two screenshots in the below pic is from latest Twitter and Facebook apps for SmartEyeGlass while the last two ones are from material design of Sony Party Share app.

Sony SmartEyeglass SDK “Developer Preview” released – coming in March 2015

Sony SmartEyeglass prototype which was shown at CES 2014, a competitor to Google Glass; is getting its first SDK “Developer Preview” getting released from Sony today. Sony defines SmartEyeglass as a “transparent lens eyewear that connects with compatible smartphones to superimpose information such as text, symbols, and images, onto the user’s field of view“.

Sony SmartEyeglass is fitted with technologies like a CMOS image sensor with 3 MP camera  ( VGA resolution for movie recording ), an accelerometer, gyroscope, electronic compass, brightness sensor and a microphone. Sony will be shipping SmartEyeglass hardware kit by the end of March 2015 so that developers could get their hands on for development as reported by TheVerge.

This is about going beyond hardware” said Hiroshi Mukawa, Head of the SmartEyeglass Project, Sony Corporation. “Our thinking is to match external creativity with in-house innovation to truly stretch the capability of the products we create – releasing the SDK early means that both our industry’s most established and up-and-coming developers will help shape what SmartEyeglass is capable of.”
