Sony SmartEyeglass SDK “Developer Preview” released – coming in March 2015

Sony SmartEyeglass prototype which was shown at CES 2014, a competitor to Google Glass; is getting its first SDK “Developer Preview” getting released from Sony today. Sony defines SmartEyeglass as a “transparent lens eyewear that connects with compatible smartphones to superimpose information such as text, symbols, and images, onto the user’s field of view“.

Sony SmartEyeglass is fitted with technologies like a CMOS image sensor with 3 MP camera  ( VGA resolution for movie recording ), an accelerometer, gyroscope, electronic compass, brightness sensor and a microphone. Sony will be shipping SmartEyeglass hardware kit by the end of March 2015 so that developers could get their hands on for development as reported by TheVerge.

This is about going beyond hardware” said Hiroshi Mukawa, Head of the SmartEyeglass Project, Sony Corporation. “Our thinking is to match external creativity with in-house innovation to truly stretch the capability of the products we create – releasing the SDK early means that both our industry’s most established and up-and-coming developers will help shape what SmartEyeglass is capable of.”
