AOSP Android 5.1 Lollipop binaries released by Sony

Android 5.1 has finally marked its appearance a few days back and it is live on Nexus devices now. Sony is yet to roll Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update on its Xperia “Z” series handsets and meanwhile they have released AOSP Android 5.1 Lollipop binaries under their AOSP for Xperia project.

Sony has released Android 5.1 Lollipop binaries for following Xperia smartphones viz. Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia E3, Xperia M2, Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia T3.

Android 5.1 Lollipop binaries for Xperia

Sony has released binaries for some non Xperia “Z” series handsets also, in no way it confirms or negates the possibility of Lollipop update on those handsets.

Google has brought some new features support for multiple SIM cards, Device Protection and high definition (HD) voice on compatible phones on Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Google has brought a new feature called “Device Protection” which protects your device in case it is stolen and will remain locked until the real user sign in with Google account and it will work even if the device is reset to factory settings.

AOSP 5.0 Lollipop to be released by FreeXperia Project Team for various Xperia devices

Recently Sony released a video showing AOSP Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM running on Xpeia Z3, Z2, Z1 and later AOSP was made available for Xperia E3, M2, T2 Ultra and T3. FreeXperia Project Team has made an announcement that they will be releasing AOSP 5.0 Lollipop ROM from today.

Devices present in FXP AOSP 5.0 Lollipop ROM list are Xperia Z Ultra, Z1, Z1 Compact, Z2, Z2 Tablet, Z3, Z3 Compact, Z3 Tablet Compact, T2 Ultra, T3, M2 and E3.

AOSP 5.0 Lollipop nightly builds will be available download from today. Visit FXP Download page to check if your device’s build has been updated or not.

FXP Team states Android 5.0 default runtime ART gave performance boost on low end devices like Xperia E3.

Alternatively download links for ROM will also be available on respective original Android development pages of device’s. ( Check Xperia T2 Utra XDA page here ).

Sony will start rolling Android 5.0 Lollipop on full Xperia “Z” series starting from Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 in early Jan 2015. If you can’t wait for official release by Sony, you may want to get your device a taste of AOSP then.

Sony releases Android 4.4.1 AOSAP binaries for Xperia L,S,Z,ZL,Tablet Z

Officially it might take very long to get android 4.4 KitKat update on already mentioned Xperia devices from Sony but Xperia devices have recently got love from many developers. XDA devs have contributed for almost every Xperia device to get unofficially CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 KitKat build on them even the 2011 Xperia devices have got it.

In past Sony has released AOSP binaries for Xperia Z, ZL and Tablet Z and now Xperia L and Xperia S have been added to the list. Yes Sony has officially released  Android 4.4 AOSAP binaries for Xperia L, S , Z, ZL, Tablet Z. Build available is KRT16O.S3.1044 ( android 4.4 KitKat ).

Probably after android 4.3 update on Xperia Z1, broken camera bug after unlocking the bootloader on Xperia Z1 will be fixed.

Xperia SP unofficial Android 4.4 KitKat CyanogenMod 11 Port available

Sony recently announced their roadmap of upgrading their Xperia smartphones to the android version 4.3 Jelly Bean and android 4.4 KitKat , Xperia SP will get the official android 4.3 Jelly Bean next month. But Sony didn’t mention the android4.4 KitKat for the Xperia SP in the first batch of devices getting it ,probably it will get it after the first raft of Xperia smartphones get the update.

So if you are keen to taste the love of android 4.4 KitKat on your Xperia SP, XDA developer “uberlaggydarwin” has created an unofficial android 4.4 KitKat CyanogenMod 11 port for Xperia SP, remember it is strictly unofficial so try at your own risk only.
