Sony is officially “finalising testing” Android Lollipop update – Focusing on rolling out soon for entire Xperia “Z” series

Sony Mobile has released its official statement on roll out of Android Lollipop update once they missed the February roll out date. As per Sony’s official statement “We’re finalising testing, still focused on rolling out soon. We’re optimising #Lollipop for *entire* Xperia Z Series – more news soon”, it seems users have to wait more now for Lollipop update.

Sony has again given an ETA for Lollipop update in form of “rolling out soon” but how soon is soon they forgot to tell. As per Sony’s tweet it seems they are focusing on releasing stable update but how stable the updates will be, time will tell.

At MWC 2015 Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia M4 Aqua were found running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmware and it seems now Sony will also directly roll Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update on Xperia “Z” series.

Sony has mentioned Android 5.0 Lollipop update for following Xperia “Z” series devices on software update page recently viz. Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 (Z1s), Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3(Z3 Dual), Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Tablet Z.

For the time being there is no ETA for the Android Lollipop update roll out except the word “soon” from Sony!

We will keep you updated once the Lollipop update roll out beings.

Xperia Material NXT Blue Theme based on Sony’s Lollipop design

We have recently seen screenshots from Xperia Z4 Dual showing what Sony holds for Lollipop UI and seeing that one of the first Xperia themes based on Sony’s Android 5.0 Lollipop design has come i.e. Xperia Material NXT Blue Theme (other colors like Purple, Green, Red soon to follow).

To install Xperia Material NXT Blue Theme you need rooted Xperia handset Z, Z1, Z2 or Z3 with SuperUser Mod installed, install theme normally and reboot. Theme is only compatible with above mentioned Xperia handsets. You get white themed UI, with new Wi-Fi icon, signal strength icon, switch buttons, navigation keys, colored status bars, themed dialer etc.

Sony officially puts Android 5.0 Lollipop update as next version for Xperia “Z” series

Sony has official mentioned Android 5.0 Lollipop as next Android update for entire Xperia “Z” series today, just on the very last day of Feb. Earlier Sony mentioned that they will be rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 in Feb but it hasn’t been rolled yet.

Sony has mentioned Android 5.0 Lollipop update for following Xperia “Z” series devices on software update page today viz. Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 (Z1s), Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3(Z3 Dual), Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Tablet Z.

As Sony has updated software page now, may be Android 5.0 Lollipop update is coming soon, may be on the very last day of Feb as they promised but will it come, time will tell.

Along with Google’s Android new mobile OS launch i.e. Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google has updated all its native apps in the system. Google’s Keyboard has been updated to newer version 4.0.21003.1519572 which brings material light and material dark themes in the keyboard.

You can now install Google Android 5.0 Lollipop Keyboard 4.0 version on non rooted Android 4.0+ running devices. It is confirmed working on all non rooted Xperia devices running android 4.3+. It has inbuilt Emoji (available on android 4.4.4 ).

Which Xperia phones getting Android 5.0 Lollipop update ?

Google has officially unveiled the next edition of Android OS i.e. Android 5.0 Lollipop along with Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player. Images of Android 5.0 Lollipop will be released by Google on 17 October and then we can expect manufacturers to build Android 5.0 Lollipop update for their device. Motorola and HTC have already come up with their plans of rollout for next android update, so what’s next for Sony Xperia devices ?

Android 5.0 Lollipop update brings material design UI to the devices, improved notification system, long lasting battery improvements, more regulated security update, newer quick settings layout, more powerful connectivity options with low energy Bluetooth Capabilities, ART runtime and many other new features, check out the full list here.

Xperia phones getting Android 5.0 Lollipop

Android 5.0 Lollipop factory images will be available from day after tomorrow so the real pain for various companies will start for building new update. Sony recently launched Xperia Z3 lineup with KitKat update and now whole Xperia “Z” series is on Android 4.4.4 KitKat ( except Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet for which it has been certified already ).

Xperia phones getting Android 5.0 Lollipop

It seems the right time now for Sony to unveil its plan for Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Xperia devices. So which Xperia devices will get Android 5.0 Lollipop update ? Let’s see.

Note : We are just speculating the devices list, don’t take it as official wording.

Android 5.0 Lollipop update getting Xperia Devices : Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet will definitely get it. Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet are also in list. Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra follows the list.

Most probably Sony will also update Xperia T2 Ultra / Dual and Xperia T3 to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

We are not sure whether Xperia M2, E3, C3, E1 will get or not. ( They should get an update. Sony will release an update or not, Sony will tell it in future once they are done updating Xperia “Z” series ).

Sony has already ended support for Xperia S, SL, T, V, TX, SP, C, L, M, E, so there is no chance for any further android update.
