Sony WCR14 Wireless charging cover and Sony WCH10 Qi Plate for Xperia Z3 is now available officially in the market where WCR14 wireless charging cover can only be used with Xperia Z3 specifically. Xperia Z3 doesn’t support wireless charging officially so it needs a Qi plate for charging.

In the retail packing you get both Sony WCR14, WCH10 Wireless accessories inside the box ( as shown in the video ). Dimensions of WCR14 cover with Xperia Z3 inside it – 152 x 81 x 13.5 mm, weight ( without phone ) – 72 grams, weight of WCH10 plate is 51 grams. Xperia Z3 WCR14 cover is very similar to Sony Style Cover for Xperia Z2.

[ REVIEW ] Sony MDR-NC31EM Digital Noise Cancelling Headset

Sony’s Digital Noise Cancelling Technology was first seen in the Xperia Z2 ( it has Digital Noise Cancelling microphone ) and with that Sony launched Sony MDR-NC31EM Digital Noise Cancelling Headset exclusively for Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet the then, but now also compatible with Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact.

Sony MDR-NC31EM Digital Noise Cancelling Headset do not come inside the box with Xperia Z2, Z3, Z3 Compact but in certain regions you may find these DNC headsets coming along with Xperia Z2 box. Let’s see what makes them special as compared to normal headsets. 98% ambient noises are reduced by an inverted anti-sound sine wave produced, as claimed by Sony.

Sony MDR-NC31EM Digital Noise Cancelling Headset currently priced at $64.99 at MobileFun UK, shipping world wide. They are available in White and Black colors only. If your phone don’t support DNC then you may not be able to use the headset with its full functionality as they will acts a normal headset only. We tried them with HTC M8 and it didn’t even recognize it.

Inside the box you will find 1 headset pair, 2 pairs of ear buds of varying sizes, manual and warranty leaflet.

Right hearing piece of headset carries the longer strap wire while the left one smaller wire which is exactly as usual found in many Sony headsets like MH750 etc.

You need to have 3.5 mm headphone connectivity port with 5 poles to use the headset.

Strap wire is pretty much long and handy to use. Though due to circular coil you will find it tangling very often.

As soon as you will plug them into your headset, you will see a pop up message on your phone’s screen. In the notification area you will see Noise Cancelling device added notification. You can specify from here whether you want DNC enabled all the time or not.

Go to Walkman app > sound settings and here you will see a couple of settings for the headset. You can specify your environment like Bus/Train, Airplane, Office; do not use them if you are not in any of the location.

Sony’s Digital Noise Cancelling technology really works and you can see a huge improvement in sound quality once the headset is plugged in. You may not find the design of earpiece of the headset comfortable as compared to headset like Sony MH750.

Compatible with selected handsets only.

Sony SmartBand SWR10 hands on review

Sony SmartBand SWR10 is a fitness band from Sony to track and log the details of your daily activities like walking, sleeping, cycling etc. Tagged with Sony doesn’t mean it can only be used with Xperia devices, you can use it with any android device ( for Xperia handsets you need atleast android 4.4 running ). It has a light weight wrist strap with a Sony core which is used to track your physical activities like steps count during walking or running.

Sony SmartBand SWR10 has got a new successor now in the form of Sony SmartBand Talk SWR30 which has 1.4″ e-ink curved display which is missing in SmartBand SWR10 ( launched at IFA 2014 ), as you can’t see any notifications from it ( it only vibrates when one comes ). Let’s see what Sony SmartBand SWR10 holds in our hands on review below.

[ REVIEW ] Sony SmartBand SWR10

Sony SmartBand SWR10 is priced at $116.99 at MobileFun, available in black color originally while Sony has introduced buy alone wrist straps in multi-colors like red, green, blue violet, pink etc. It is IP58 certified (water resistant abilities that is can sustain submersion upto 1.5 meters inside deep fresh water for upto 30 minutes, as mentioned by Sony in the user guide.)

Design – Hardware

Sony SmartBand SWR10 best merit is that if you wear it on your hands you will see that it is super light in weight. Sony’s core module goes inside the band. Module Core ( 7.8 mm thick ) weighs around 21 grams with the band ( 6 grams wt. including ).

Core unit has power on/off button and 3 LED lights which indicated battery level and charging. At the bottom side there is micro USB port for charging. It takes around less than 30 minutes to charge it fully ( LED light keeps on when fully charged ) and stays awake for more than 4 days with a single charge.

We used SmartBand during running and with the hands movement also core unit module remained fit inside the wristband so there is no possibility of it falling out.

Sony SmartBand SWR10 wrist strap is made up of rubber ( silicon material ), very flexible in nature. We do noticed that it attracts dust if you keep it somewhere.

Sony has provided 2 wrist straps inside the box as mentioned above where larger one lengths about 250 mm and smaller one around 241 mm .

Core unit area is at the top side of the wrist strap where core is to be placed such that where Sony is written on it should face your wrist.

To tighten the wrist strap Sony has provided holes in the band just like there are in any wristwatch. You can remove the button to use it on another wrist strap

Setting up Sony SmartBand SWR10

To set up Sony SmartBand SWR10, you need to download Sony Lifelog app from Play Store which will be used to log the activities. To change the settings of Sony SmartBand SWR10 you also need to download the Sony SmartBand SWR10 app from Play Store.

Turn on the NFC on your device and power on the SmartBand. As soon as it is connected, it will be detected by the Sony SmartBand SWR10 app installed on your device and it will ask you to update the firmware if available.

Bluetooth and NFC are two connectivity options available to connect it with the phone / tablet.

You have to allow Sony SmartBand SWR10 app to access the notifications from your phone ( go to settings menu on your device to do that ).

Change the settings of the band as per your need. SmartBand vibrates gently whenever any notification comes.

One of the best feature of Sony SmartBand SWR10 is that you can access various apps on your device from the band itself.

You need to turn on the GPS location to let Sony Lifelog app work properly. In the notifications area on your device you will see a message that “SmartBand connected”, “Lifelog app activated”. Open the Lifelog app to see your logged activities and change the settings as per your need.

Even if you have not switch on the internet on your device, as when you turn it on, all the recorded data will be synchronized with the Lifelog app so you don’t miss any log details.

If you keep the SmartBand SWR10 in your pocket also, it still records your physical activities. When the SmartBand and your device gets out of range, SmartBand will vibrate thrice to let you know.

Though SmartBand is supposed to count the steps while walking or running, it does but not very accurately ( around 70% accuracy is there as found by our tests ).

Sony SmartBand SWR10 do provides what it states. If you are an obsessed fitness freak then Sony SmartBand can help you to track your daily physical activities details. Sony has now enabled “Cycling” and “Transportation” tracking via app ( though till in beta phase ). Moreover if you are more concerned with recording details for walking and running, Sony SmartBand SWR10 seems to be a perfect companion.

Sony is planning to launch a Style Cover Stand SCR15 for Xperia C3 and Dual exclusively in Black and White color. Previously we have seen Style Covers for Xperia Z2, Z2 Tablet, T3 and T2 Ultra. It is a desk stand convertible cover with auto sleep mode as soon as flap of the cover is put on screen.

Style Cover Stand SCR15 weighs 68 grams and 158.8 x 82.1 x 12.65 mm in dimensions. Price is still unknown as it not yet available for purchase. As Sony has promised to launch Xperia C3 and C3 Dual in August 2014 so we can expect the cover to be put on sale at the same time.

Google introduced the final version of Android Wear at Google I/O 2014. The company showed off the new software on the LG G Watch. As per Google’s survey, people check their smartphones an average of 125 times a day. They claimed that smartwatches can let you access notifications without having to find your phone.

Sony is all set to launch another Bluetooth headset i.e. Sony MBH20, Mono Bluetooth headset powered by Bluetooth 3.0 surprisingly not Bluetooth 4.0. Sony MBH20 looks like a regular Bluetooth headset from which you can make calls handsfree, listen to music after pairing it with your device. Sony MBH20 is a successor of Sony MBH10 Mono Bluetooth headset.

Let’s have a closer look at Sony SBH50 Stereo Bluetooth headset, you will see a Sony branding at top and NFC powered icon.

Sony SBH50 Headset – Hardware

Let’s have a close look at various buttons available on Sony SBH50 headset.

3.5mm headphone jack is provided at sides along with a dedicated microphone. Move upward the front plate on which Sony is written and you can clip it on your Shirt, T-Shirt etc.

At the top side there is a small OLED screen display which displays text in white color only. You can read your SMS, Emails etc here by using menu option. Besides OLED screen you see a small circular button which is used to take and disconnect calls.

You see three buttons with arrow mark on it are used to play music track back and forward and to stop it. Circular button with back arrow mark is used to get to previous menu or main menu.

Micro USB connector is there to charge the Sony SBH50 headset using AC Adapter provided with the headset in the box. Power button is provided just besides Sony SBH50 headset.

Below you can see the main menu screen of Sony SBH50 headset. 5 options are provided to choose, from left to right; first one is settings option allowing you to pair and disconnect your headset from the paired device, second one is used to refresh the settings for reading SMS or emails, third one is used to select the music, fourth one is used to call on desired number and fifth one is used to play FM radio.

Sony SBH50 allows you to read your Emails and SMS through it. Just press the middle music play/stop button and whole message will be displayed on screen. As soon as the message comes you will hear a notification as a tone if earphones are put on and a speaking voice will read out the subject of the message.

Connect to available radio frequency in your area.

Browse whole music list of your paired device from your headset.

With the help of center button besides OLED screen you can make calls to any number which are in your recent call list.

Xperia T3 ( D5102, D5103, D5106 ) Sony’s “next big thing” was unveiled recently featuring 5.3″ 720p HD display, 1.4 GHz Snapdragon 400 quad core processor chipset, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage packed in 7mm thickness which is tagged as world’s slimmest 5.3″ device so far in stainless steel frame. Xperia T3 features 8 MP rear cam along with 1.1 MP front cam, 2500 mAh embedded non-removable battery and weighs 148 grams. As per Sony a phone to screen ratio of Xperia T3 is 66.7%.

Xperia Z2 Wireless Charging Cover WCR12, Charging Plate WCH10 launched

A few days back we posted that Sony Charging Plate WCH10 was certified at FCC and now its official, Sony has announced two new wireless charging accessories i.e. Wireless Charging Cover WCR12 and Charging Plate WCH10. Xperia Z2 in original don’t support wireless charging but with the help of above mentioned wireless products you can now charge your Xperia Z2 wirelessly with the help of inductive Qi technology which allows power to transform from a transmission pad to a compatible receiver using EMI.

Pricing of Sony Wireless Charging Cover WCR12 and Charging Plate WCH10 is not declared yet but both products were seen at online retailer Clove a lot time back before they were officially announced. Sony Japan launches waterproof SRS-X1 speaker, SRS-X2 20W output speaker

Earlier today Sony Japan has launched two new set of speakers line viz. waterproof SRS-X1 speaker and high output SRS-X2 speaker. SRS-X1 speakers are identical to another model SRS-BTV5 with some enhancement and water resistant nature while SRS-X2 is amplified for higher volume and powerful sound experience.

Sony SRS-X1 speaker will be available in White, Black, Pink and Violet and Sony SRS-X1 speaker will be available in White and Black color, 21 June onwards at price 8500 Yen ($83) + Tax and 9500 Yen ($93) + Tax respectively from Sony Stores in Japan. Sony SRS-X1 speakers are IPX7 rated equivalent to JIS and JIS IPX5 suitable for safely usage in bathroom and kitchen.

Sony CP-W5 portable wireless charger announced in Singapore for Qi compatible devices

Sony has officially announced its first portable wireless charger for Qi-compatible devices in Singapore exclusively. Sony CP-W5 portable wireless charger can charge any Qi technology enabled device and other devices with the help of USB connector. If you are charging your device via wireless option than output will be 1.0A while if connected via USB port output will be 1.5A which is a standard rating which we get though AC Adapters also.

Sony CP-W5 portable wireless charger packs 5000 mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery inside it which can be easily charged 1000 times. It has Sony’s Hybrid-Gel Technology which will enable it to retain 90% of its capacity at 1000 charges. At present it is only available in white color and will be on sale April 2014 onwards in Singapore while its availability in other regions of world is still unknown.

What we guess is as seen with other Qi chargers for Xperia devices, there may also be a special Qi enabled back phone case from Sony which will have charging plate embedded inside it and after putting case on phone and placing it on Sony CP-W5 portable wireless charger you can charge your phone. As mentioned by Sony both wireless charging and USB charging can’t be done at same time.
