Sony has finally rolled the very delayed android 4.4.4 update for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet in form of 23.0.1.A.0.167 firmware. Sony has update the same on their blog with a detailed changelog. Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet got the exclusive Xperia Z3 feature of PS4 Remote Play and DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless controller connectivity compatibility.

  • DSEE HX technology added in Walkman app.
  • Option to specifically select optimized sound settings for different headsets.
  • New Camera app with inbuilt apps like AR Fun, Multi Camera, Face In, Sound Photo.
  • ULTRA Stamina Moda ( upgraded version of Stamina Mode ) added.
  • New Quick settings options added like – Smart Screen Rotation which analyzes itself the way the screen should be rotated when you change the position of the way you hold your device.
  • Screen Recording option added in the power menu to record the content of the screen.
  • Compatibility with Android Smart Wear – Bluetooth Unlock feature via SmartWear.

NOTE : Many Xperia Z2 users are reporting an error while downloading the 23.0.1.A.0.167 firmware update “There is no software available for your device” , “Sony Update Engine doesn’t have software available for your device”.

We are still looking into the resolution of the problem, it seems Sony’s server is overloaded for the time being, so kindly try to update after a while ( No need to download the file again ).

After a long wait Android 4.4.4 23.0.1.A.0.167 firmware has been certified for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet. Sony first updated Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra on android 4.4.4 version and later on updated Xperia T2 Ultra family on android 4.4.3 version though it was weird that the then flagship model Xperia Z2 was left out in cold without an update.

23.0.1.A.0.167 firmware is certified for all models of Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet globally which clearly means the roll out is very near now. If you noticed Sony has adopted a new firmware number series i.e. 23.0.X.X.X.XXX for Xperia Z2 series now which clearly means a major update over older Android 4.4.2 17.1.2.A.0.314 firmware and may be a new UI like Xperia Z3.
