The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination at national level that examines the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. GATE is conducted by the Indian Institute of Science and other seven institutes within India such as (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Madras) with the help of National Board and Government of India. The GATE Score is used for applying for admissions in various postgraduate programs such as Masters of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctorate.. , GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sectors bodies for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. It is one of the most competitive examinations in India.
ELIGIBILITY
The eligibility criteria to GATE EXAM can be found below:
- Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2/ Post-B. Sc./ Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year of such programs.
- Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs.
- Candidates in the second or higher year of Four-year integrated master’s degree programs (Post-B. Sc.) in Engineering/ Technology.
- Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year integrated master’s degree programs or Dual Degree programs in Engineering/Technology.
- Candidates with qualifications got through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by i.e. (i), AMICE (i) by the institute of Civil Engineers (India)-iCE ( (i)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech.
DURATION AND EXAMINATION TYPES
The GATE examination is about 3 hours duration, and it contains 65 questions of maximum 100 marks. From 2014 onward, the examination for GATE is carried out in an online Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode where the candidates are shown the questions in a random sequence on a computer screen. The questions comprise both multiple-choice questions and numerical answer. type questions…. Candidates are provided with blank paper sheets for rough work and these have to be returned after the examination. At the end, the computer automatically closes the screen from further processing. The subjects of interest include Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Instrumentation Engineering. Apart from that there are also some other subjects that you can opt for such as Mathematics, Physics, etc. Candidates who scores below 70 percentages of marks get no score card.
GATE AT ITS DIFFICULTY LEVEL
GATE, has examined the Engineering basics in a unique way. It does not comprise much of LENGTHY PROBLEMS. The most difficult part of managing the entire course of engineering in a three-hour exam . It itself gives the test a certain level of toughness. Each year, only around 15% of all appearing candidates qualify. Around 90% are required to get admission in M. . Tech. or M.E. degree programs in Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Science, or to get an opportunity for job interviews in Indian Public Sector.
