Xperia E C1505, C1504 Android 4.1.1 11.3.A.2.13 firmware update Rolled

Speaking of android updates, Sony is doing pretty good now; all of its major handsets are updated to latest android firmware ( depending on their hardware customization ). Xperia E C1505 / C1504 has just been updated to Android 4.1.1 11.3.A.2.13 firmware update ( Xperia E was launched with Jelly Bean ).

11.3.A.2.13 firmware update has been rolled on both carrier devices as well as unbranded ones. Accessibility

Upside flap of case don’t have any magnetic closure which we would have been preferred. It just closes itself, but when trying to open it by its self closure strip, we find it very uncomfortable to do so.

All the ports of phone are fully accessible after opening the upside flap of case.

At the back the holes for rear camera-flash and the microphone is at proper place no objection in their positions.

Speakers stainless steel mesh protector is provided at the back of Xperia SP leather case, to protect any unwanted damage to the speakers.

Durability

Let’s proceed with the review of Xperia Z Flip case which was included in this Xperia Z Smart Pack by Roxfit.

Xperia Z Smart Pack by Roxfit comes in a touch silver color cardbox which mentions the pack content on the front pack and a pic of Xperia Z Flip Case by Roxfit. Back side of cover reads a small info about the pack content.

Case is made up of fine leather grain just like the Xperia Z and SP Pouch case but this one has a different feel while moving fingers over it, a little bit rough just because of the hard cover inside it, so no issues as it is needed also to protect the phone.

The case is stitched with white thread and “Made for Xperia” is embossed on the front cover.

You can Roxfit logo embossed on the inner side of front cover.

Inner lining of front side of Xperia Z Flip case by Roxfit is made of soft velvet which is a lot smooth, leaving no marks on the screen.

Inner surface of back cover is a tough shell in which Xperia Z fits perfectly, no issues in adjusting it.

Dimensions

Xperia Z Flip case by roxfit is 140x77x14 mm in dimension in which we found our Xperia Z ( 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm in dimension ) fits easily.

Accessibility

The front closure of Xperia Z Flip case by Roxfit is magnetic which tightly holds your phone when it is inside it.

At the back side, we have two holes one for rear cam and flash and one is for the secondary microphone which have a complete viewable area. No objections in it.

While as the phone completely gets fit in the Xperia Z Flip case by Roxfit, so whenever you are folding the front side of cover to view the notifications on-screen or to perform any task, you get a little bit folding marks on the case which we think is usual to get but we saw many marks on the cover after repeatedly folding of it.

We guess it can’t be avoided even, fold marks will come on cover sure.

All the ports are easily accessible on phone, you don’t need to take out phone from the Xperia Z Flip case.

But while charging our Xperia Z on the charging dock we do find some issues, we could not connect it properly neither it was comfortable so that’s an issue as front cover can’t hold itself too long at back.

Xperia Z Flip case by Roxfit Vs Case came with our Xperia Z

Sony gave a leather flip case for Xperia Z here in India, no it’s not officially from Sony but it was just provided with Xperia Z as an additional accessory by the vendor.

We can definitely say that Xperia Z Flip case by Roxfit is far better than it, it has a lot premium leather, easily accessibility to all ports on the phone and the magnetic front closure.

Durability

Xperia Z Flip case by Roxfit is a premium case, a tough one as compared to other ones. It is easily washable by the leather cleaner liquid and can take daily wear and tear. Do not expect it to protect your phone from drop but yes it can easily sustain some small rough handling.

You also get front and rear screen guards for your Xperia Z with the Xperia Z Smart Pack. Though Sony has officially applied them on the phone before but that’s very thin one so you must apply screen guards on to them for better protection from daily scratches on phone. They are provided with an applicator and a cleaning cloth.

NFC Smart Tags

2 NFC Smart tags are provided with Xperia Z Smart Pack, though no confirmation is there on the color of the tags. On the cover of Xperia Z Smart Pack, purple and green color is shown and we also go the same ones. They belong to NT2 category of Xperia NFC Smart Tags, provided with an official manual from Sony with it.

They are very easy to use, you just need to activate the NFC on your Xperia Z and then just touch the tag on the back of phone. Well while the Xperia Z Flip case by Roxfit was on, tag was detected with no issues. After the tag has been detected, smartconnect app will open it and you can adjust the settings as per onscreen instructions.

Xperia Z Ultra C6802 Android 4.2.2 14.1.B.0.471 firmware update ftf

Talking of firmware updates Sony is releasing them too fast now, in previous two days we have seen Sony rolling 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware update for Xperia Z, ZL and ZR. Though Xperia ZR got it’s first android 4.2.2 update.

Just now we have seen Xperia Z C6802 HSPA+ version has received an Android 4.2.2 14.1.B.0.471 firmware update over its previous 14.1.B.0.461 firmware version. It is the first update for Xperia Z Ultra.

As we all know last night Sony rolled a lot many firmwares for it’s beloved Xperia Z Series phones. Xperia Z, ZL and ZR were updated on same Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware with same kernel version and baseband. The most serious concern for the update was that, Sony has patched the perf_event exploit which was used to root the devices. But not issues.

Legendary XDA Developer has found a solution to Root Xperia Z, ZL, ZR Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware by his new DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit v18.

How to Root Xperia Z, ZL, ZR Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware

Before rooting your phone you must be on Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware, if you are not, please update your Xperia Z, ZL and ZR before beginning. DooMLoRD has done a smart thing, he is asking users to first use the kernel on which root exploit works then root the device and then flash back the latest kernel on phone again 😛

After downloading above files, perform the given below steps.

How to Root Xperia Z Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware – STEPS

Works on both Locked as well as UnLocked Bootloaders.

Enable USB Debugging and unknown sources option on your phone before proceeding. Do not use other kit version except V18.

Download Flashtool, Open it. Flash the “XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.A.0.423_Generic_NL.f tf” file on your Xperia Z. It is the kernel of an old firmware of Xperia Z which was rootable.
Reboot your Xperia Z after flashing. Connect to PC in USB Debugging mode.
Do not forget to close FLASHTOOL. CLOSE FLASHTOOL , before proceeding next step or you will get serious error.
Extract the downloaded “DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip” file and run the “runme_win” file.
Follow onscreen instructions to root Xperia Z and once it is rooted, device will reboot. Verify that you are rooted, run SuperSU app.
Now switch off your Xperia Z. OPEN FLASHTOOL.
Now you need to flash “XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.1.A.0.244_BE.ftf” file in order to get back the true kernel of Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware of Xperia Z.
After flashing, disconnect the phone from PC, reboot it and your Xperia Z is now rooted and we are done with Root Xperia Z Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware steps.

How to Root Xperia ZL and Xperia ZR Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware ?

In order to root your Xperia ZL and Xperia ZR on the same firmware by DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit v18, you need to perform the same above 8 steps as mentioned. But the files for the kernel would be different for both phones. Do not flash the kernel of Xperia Z Strictly.

Get the kernel files of old rootable and new firmware for Xperia ZL and ZR separately and then you can root your device using above steps.

A month back on June 24, Xperia Z was officially update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean 10.3.A.0.423 firmware and some days back we saw another Jelly Bean 10.3.1.A.0.236 firmware OTA update being rolled on Xperia Z but only on developer handsets, which was a lot curious why such a firmware was rolled and users reporting it were very few.

But now, in INDIA region, we have just spotted another 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware on our Xperia Z C6602 HSPA+ version via PC Companion as well as via SUS. No such update is seen listed on PTCRB site also. Update also confirmed on Xperia Z C6603 LTE version now.

10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware update confirmed in India, Sweden, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Poland till now. Same 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware update is also confirmed on Xperia ZL C6503.

We can confirm that 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware update for Xperia Z C6602 is just a patch update of Android 4.2.2 🙂 Sony must have patched the perf_event exploit. So Root from previous 10.3.A.0.423 firmware will now be lost sadly.

At the bottom of pouch “Made for Xperia” is embossed, contrary to which we think company should have embossed “Roxfit” for band value, can’t say why they missed it.

Instead giving on front side, “Roxfit” is embossed on inner surface of front side. In an official leather pouch which we got with our Xperia SL, has “Sony” embossed at bottom of case.

Dimensions

Xperia Z Slip Pouch Case by Roxfit is 150 x 90 x .4 mm in dimensions which perfectly fits Xperia Z which is 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm in dimensions.

Xperia SP Slip Pouch Case by Roxfit is 138 x 85 x .4 mm in dimensions which perfectly fits Xperia SP which is approx. 130.6 x 67.1 x 9.98 mm in dimensions.

Accessibility

Top side of Xperia Z is completely exposed to take out the phone from the pouch and easy accessibility to earphone jack plugin flap. To insert earphone jack in case of Xperia SP, just insert it in the given hole, it is exposed too.

At the bottom side, small hole gap is provided to push phone out of the pouch.

Xperia Z and Xperia SP Slip Pouch Case are a lot durable for daily usage. Cleaning the leather surface from a leather cleaning liquid puts no damage to the case. Xperia SP Slip Pouch Case is a universal case and can also be used for other Xperia smartphones likes Xperia Acro S, Xperia T, TX and Xperia V.

Wrap up

Overall we love Xperia Z and SP Slip Pouch Case by Roxfit. As this time Sony is not giving any pouch with these two handset, so in that case surely cases from Roxfit will be our choice. After using the pouch case for two days it became sufficient loose to easily take handset in and out. Leather finish on front and back gives a very smooth touch feel while holding, a bit slippery it is so take care you don’t slip it out from your hands.

What is extremely good for all Xperia fans is that whole Xperia Z series including Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Z Ultra and Tablet Z will be getting android 4.3 jelly bean update including Xperia SP which is still on android 4.1.2.

It is confirmed that Xperia Z Jelly Bean 10.3.1.A.0.236 firmware OTA Update rolled out on a prototype device of Xperia Z C6603, which creates speculations whether the same update will reach to consumer “red” devices or not. Xperia Z Jelly Bean 10.3.1.A.0.236 firmware OTA Update is simply of 43 MB which marks that it may a bug fixing update only, not a fresh one.

It seems Sony’s streak of rolling out new firmware has not stopped, we have just spotted a new Jelly Bean 12.0.A.2.220 Firmware being certified by PTCRB for Xperia SP HSPA+ C5302 version and C5303 LTE version. Xperia SP officially launched on android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean 12.0.A.1.211 firmware.

Reboot your Xperia Z C6603 / C6602 in CWM recovery.
Make sure /system partition is unmounted otherwise you may get Error 7.
Wipe the Dalvik Cache.
Now flash the 423_DXD_CWM.zip file in Recovery.
Reboot.

Done, you have now Deodexed Xperia Z Android 4.2.2 10.3.A.0.423 Jelly Bean ROM 🙂 Go to system/app and check if there is any odex file, if not then the process if fully done.

Xperia Z C6603 / C6602 are IP57 certified phones i.e. dust and water-resistant up to 1 meter and 30 minutes as mentioned in manual from Sony, so this makes Xperia Z only a water-resistant phone not a water proof phone. To test the water-resistant ability of Xperia Z C6602, I took it with myself to let my phone enjoy in rain 🙂 Well the phone was completely wet in rain, I took some pretty cool pictures and shot video, all was working fine 🙂

Xperia Z C6602 touch was working smooth in rain also, water was all over the screen.
Camera works great after getting wet, no effects on photos and videos.

Problems in Xperia Z After getting Wet

Well as all the external ports of Xperia Z C6602 are completely covered by flap, which leaves, external speaker grill, microphone and hearing speaker uncovered, so definitely they gonna develop some issues.

We got only one issue i.e. low speaker volume on our Xperia Z C6602 after getting wet in rain.
Microphone working fine.
Gearing speaker is same as before.

So we were not afraid that our speaker has got damaged or anything else as we were prepared for all this. Let’s see the solution of this issue…

What to do after your Xperia Z has got in contact with water…

Clean it with a dry piece of cloth.
Open all the flaps of ports and let some air get in, in case there is any water it will dry out.
Blow some air from your mouth on the hearing speaker and other speaker on side to get some water come out.

Genuine Condition to happen…

Now play any song, you will see that speaker’s volume has got very low…You may not able to hear anything on that. Take your Xperia Z close to your ear and listen, if speaker is playing music then it’s working fine, now see what to do.

Keep your phone aside for 1-4 hours, in the meantime water in speaker will dry out and your phone’s speaker will get back to their normal loud 🙂
If the loudness don’t get back to normal in that time, do not panic. Some Xperia Z users reported that it came back to normal loudness in 1-2 days automatically depending on amount of water got in.

If in case your Xperia Z speaker volume don’t get back in that time also then what to do ?

Put your Xperia Z inside a container of dry rice for some hours. Rice will soak out water from your phone if there is any left and your phone’s speaker will get back to normal 🙂

All users of Xperia Z, ZR and Z Ultra should do the same thing in case water has got in their phone.

Xperia Ion LT28i Jelly Bean 6.2.B.0.211 firmware certified by PTCRB

On May 17 PTCRB certified Jelly Bean 6.2.B.0.204 firmware for Xperia Ion LT28h and 0n March 25 Sony officially rolled out Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean 6.2.B.0.211 firmware for Xperia Ion LT28h but Xperia Ion LT28i users didn’t see any update on their phone. No Jelly Bean update has been listed for Xperia Ion LT28i yet.

Just now on listing of 8 July PTCRB has officially listed first android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean 6.2.B.0.204 firmware for Xperia Ion LT28i. It’s the first version spotted online. Xperia S and SL have got two Jelly Bean 6.2.B.0.200 and 6.2.B.0.211 firmware till now and Xperia Ion LT28h Jelly Bean 6.2.B.0.211 firmware.

We have just noticed that on 9 July PTCRB has listed another firmware of Xperia Ion LT28i i.e. android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean 6.2.B.0.211.

Xperia Ion LT28i was Sony’s first phone to have 4G LTE service and this firmware will be supporting this. Let’s hope Sony will roll out this firmware or another one very soon for Xperia Ion. As Xperia Ion users are desperately waiting for this.
