Sony Mobile Ends Future updates for Xperia S, SL, Acro S, Arc S, Ion, P, U, Go, Miro, Tipo, J, Sola

A sad news for many Xperia smartphone users, just now it is seen and CONFIRMED that Sony Mobile has planned to stop any further future android firmware updates for Xperia S, SL, Acro S, Arc S, Ion, P, U, Go, Miro, Tipo, J, Sola. We do agree that users of just mentioned devices may not feel good after reading this but that’s what Sony Mobile has decided. Many of the mentioned handsets are not available in market now and if they are, that’s not commercially profitable for the company.

Sony Mobile has taken this decision for all handsets which were more than 18 months or 2 years older, no further firmware support will be given by Sony officially. The present firmware available for all handsets will remain as last update on them. Sony Mobile has just abandoned the firmware support not customer support for those device, keep that in mind.

Below you can find the detailed info on the last firmware update available for Xperia S, SL, Acro S, Arc S, Ion HSPA and LTE , P, U, Go, Miro, Tipo and Tipo Dual, J, Sola. Below info is taken from software “Support” section of respective devices.

Summing up all Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia Acro S, Xperia J, Xperia Go, Xperia Ion HSPA+ and LTE and Xperia P will remain on android 4.1.2 jelly bean and Xperia Arc S, Xperia U, Xperia Tipo and Tipo Dual, Xperia Sola, Xperia Miro will remain on android 4.0 ice cream sandwich.

At the moment Android 4.3 is awaited for Xperia SP, T, TX and V.

While Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z1S, Xperia SP will soon see android 4.4.2 KitKat update as promised by Sony in the first batch. 2nd batch of devices may include Xperia C, L, M and hopefully Xperia T, TX and V also.

As per us Sony Mobile has shown proper support when it comes to android updates, we do agree that they normally roll updates late but now they are consistent in rolling updates especially for Xperia Z family smartphones but they should also focus on mid range devices; ignoring them is not a good strategy from such a large firm. Xperia keyboard version 5.6.D.1.28 OTA update for Xperia S, SL, P

It’s great to see that Sony has not forgotten Xperia S, SL and P, as users have reported an OTA update coming for Xperia keyboard version 5.6.D.1.28. Xperia S, SL and P at present are on android 4.1.2 jelly bean and with the introduction of android 4.4 KitKat Project Svelte; Xperia S, SL, Acro S and P users can expect to get android 4.3 and android 4.4 KitKat updates though chances are very less.

Xperia keyboard version 5.6.D.1.28 update is available in update center app on your Xperia S, SL and P. Update brings no visual changes rather some “software performance improvement” to rectify the lag in the keyboard app.

Update Tutorial – Installation Guide

1 – We need to download the Xperia FLASHTOOL for flashing the ftf file.

Download Flashtool V0.9.10.1 I 109 MB I [Direct Link]

2 – As soon as you download Xperia FLASHTOOL. Install it on your PC, it will take 417 MB space on your PC. Let us say downloaded file location on your PC is “C:\Flashtool”. Go to this folder, and in the “drivers” folder find file “Flashtool-drivers” as shown below.

3 – Run the program Flashtool-drivers as “Administrator” . In the scroll box of option “Select components to install”, Do “Check Mark” the options > “Xperia P, U and Sola Drivers”, “Flashmode drivers” and “Fastboot drivers”. Total space required would be 22.1 MB. Click on “Install” option. Check below for screenshot.

4 – Wait for the drivers to install on your PC. As soon as the drivers have been installed successfully. Go to  “C:\Flashtool” and in the folder “firmwares” paste the downloaded Xperia P LT22_6.2.A.0.400_World Generic.ftf in that folder.

5 – Now run the main “FlashTool.exe” file from the folder, as soon as it open you see written “Device disconnected at the end”. Check image below.

6 – Now Switch off your Xperia P. Now after waiting for 30 seconds, connect the USB cable to your PC and now pressing “Volume Down” button connect USB’s other half to your Xperia P (Flashing key for Xperia P). As soon as your phone is connected you will see “Green” light blinking in the notification LED this is called booting into Flash Mode. Now you will see as “Device connected in FLASHMODE” in the screen of Xperia Flashtool. Check screenshot below.

7 – See in the top left corner above you will find a black thunder icon, click on it, choose “Flash Mode” and navigate to folder to select the ftf file you placed in “firmwares” folder above in step 4.

8 – Click OK, the Jelly Bean 6.2.A.0.400 firmware ftf file will be flashed on your Xperia P now. As soon as flashing is done, screen says “Finish”. Disconnect your phone from PC and reboot.

NOTE : The very first reboot after flashing will be very slow, later it will be stabilized.
