Sony recently rolled Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia “Z2” & Xperia “Z3” series. In the new Lollipop UI, Sony introduced many new features like material design UI, new Xperia Themes & Wallpapers, new settings & animations.

After updating to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update many Xperia users are seeing this error “lockscreen disabled by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage“, even we got the same error once we were trying to set the lock screen security settings to “none/slide” from “PIN/Password”.

Xperia Lockscreen disabled by administrator error fix

Issue/Error: Not able to set lockscreen security settings as “None/Slide” back once you have set it to “PIN/Password”.

NOTE: Below posted solutions work for all Android devices running Lollipop.

Solution: There is a very simple solution for Xperia Lockscreen disabled by administrator error.

  • Go to Settings > Security > Screen Security. Check whether you are seeing an error, as shown above, if yes then proceed as mentioned below.
  1. Under Security > Credential Storage > Tap on “Clear Credentials (Remove all certificates)” > Tap on OK.

How to fix Xperia Lockscreen disabled by administrator error

Lockscreen disabled by administrator error after Lollipop Update

After clearing credentials, credential storage security settings would look like as shown below.

Solution of Xperia Lockscreen disabled by administrator error

  • Once Credentials are cleared you can again set lockscreen security settings as “none/slide”

We hope this helps.

If you are still unable to set your lockscreen security settings to “none/slide”, let us know. Drop your comments below.

I locked my Z3 compact (after update to android 5.0) and i forgot pattern lock. B4 you had option “forgot patern (or password)” now what I can do apart from hard restart?

    • Anurag Kumar May 5, 2015 at 9:01 pm - Reply

Type any password/pattern till it has reached its limit
And it should be showing “Forgot ur password”

      Then click it

      Is it something like that?

My Z3 compact has the opposing issue. My lock screen pin keeps turning itself off and returning to swipe since last update….not very secure, and a pain in the a** to keep turning on again. Kinda defeats the object if i lose my phone anyone can just wait for the pin to reutrn to swipe without doing anything !!!!

Menu > Settings > Security > Power button instantly locks (set to disable) > Screen lock (enter current password/screen pattern) choose None/Swipe.

Clearing the credentials didn’t work for me, and when I tried the above method, I got to remove the password, but had to remain with “Swipe” as my option because “None” wasn’t available. I can live with that.

It doesn’t worked on android marshmallow. I pressed on clear credential and then ok but it is still black, it doesn’t fade out to grey and the problem of not being able to set screen lock to slide remains.
    Please help me
