Sony rolls its firmware update either via Update Center app or via PC Companion, from PC Companion you can extract the download firmware file and it can be converted into ftf file which is used for manual flashing. XperiFirm is a tool which allows you to download firmware directly as soon as it is released from Sony servers. By using XperiFirm you can also find out which firmware is available in which region.

All those users who either have not got any update yet or want to download it for their device as soon as it released (before reaching their region), we have made a tutorial on how to download Lollipop firmware via XperiFirm Tool and flash it using flashtool.

There is a big possibility that when you use .ta files to create ftf file you will permanently damage OTA. even if you flash different software file OTA will be unrepairable.”.

On opening Xperifirm, an error message is shown “Failed to connect to the server.” but I can assure you that my internet is working absolutely fine. How do I solve this?

    • Anurag Kumar June 8, 2015 at 10:37 pm - Reply

You need to update to the latest version, it will solve that issue.

      • Apoorve June 9, 2015 at 11:24 am - Reply

I already have the latest version, i.e, Xperifirm 4.7.2 (which I have directly downloaded from xda – http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/pc-xperifirm-xperia-firmware-downloader-t2834142 ).
I have also tried using the inbuilt Xperifirm in Flashtool, receiving the same error. Thanks in advance.
