Many users are reporting to us about this weird Xperia Z1 vibration motor squeaking sound issue. For some a sound like bee buzzing comes when their phone vibrates and for some a loud squeaking sound comes. It is still not clear whether this vibration issue in Xperia Z1 is related with firmware or faulty hardware but we too have felt it on old .257 firmware.

Sony’s own forum is filled with many threads about this loud vibration sound issue on Xperia Z1. If you try Xperia diagnostic app on your phone then you can clearly identify the issue, want to clearly know what this issue is actually, just look at the video posted below by a user.

Xperia Z1 vibration motor squeaking sound issue

Check the squeaking sound coming when Xperia Z1 is vibrating. It can be a faulty hardware issue.

One of our know friend, Sai Krishna from TskSoft also had this issue and he got his Xperia Z1 replaced from Sony Service center so if you are also facing this issue first try repairing your firmware from PC Companion and if it doesn’t solve the issue just take the phone to Sony Service center and ask them to replace it.

In past we have reported many issues on Xperia Z1 which users are facing, lets have a look at them below.

I am from bangalore, India. I bought Xperia Z1 in Nov-13. I had same issue. I was not aware that this issue is also common. I went to Sony Service Center. First they said that this is software issue and asked me to wait for 2-3 hrs. After 2-3 hrs, I went back, they replaced my mobile with new box packed model. That’s all. But I think this is some kind of critical hardware or design flaw in Xperia Z1.

          Hi Subrat,

i am facing a very similar issue, strange squealing sound from the top of the phone while typing. I took it to an authorised service center in Mumbai and they accepted that it is a hardware flaw after some diagnostics and software runs. Now these guys are telling me that either we give you a ‘refurbished’ phone and we repair your phone from our Chennai office. However, am pushing for a new phone. I bought the phone in Nov 2013. Did they gave you the brand new box packed phone with no questions asked? why are they harassing me? i also spoke to their regional head of servicing and he had the same reply..Lets see, he said he will speak to some superior and get back to me again..Let me know your experience at your earliest possible time pls. Many thanks.

          regards,
          Ayaz Danish

I am from Malaysia, I have the exact same issue of this squeaking vibration sound issue. How can I do about it? I only used my phone only less that 2 months now. Can I bring to sony center for replacement or repair? I have never dropped my phone yet or drop into water.

    • Ayaz Danish May 8, 2014 at 10:45 am - Reply

If it is a faulty hardware, Sony replaces it with a ‘refurbished phone’ with warranty. The physical condition of the refurbished phone can be inspected before taking delivery. However, in India, they do not have the policy of replacing it with a brand new/box packed phone unless this problem comes within 1 week of purchase.

        Hi Danish

This is Muthu from Bangalore. i have same vibration issue in Xperia Z1. i have submitted mobile to sony service center. They told same thing to me also as what they said to you . i strictly told i wont accept the refurbished product . i told i want new box piece or repair my own phone. in sony warranty they haven’t mention about refurbished phone . they mentioned only repair, replay or refund. this service center just cheating their customer.. really sony product is good only service centers are very bad.. anyhow your information is useful for me .. thank you

I am also facing same vibration issue with Z1… making squeaking sound … i gave my mobile today at Accel Frontline in koramangala, bangalore. they said it will take atleast 15-20 days for me to get my phone back either repaired or refurbished. till then they gave me a cheap Xperia M as stand by which i didnt accept which is horrible state. i said tht i cant take risk of handling again such a standby till i get my phone. Have to wait and see wat happens going forward. Sony service executives lack clarity on what they say…

Just to share my experience. So I had exactly the same problem on my z1. At first the buzzing sound was just as on the video (sometimes vibrates normally and in most of the times just buzzing) and than in time the vibration was completely gone and my phone was just buzzing whenever it was supposed to vibrate. My phone was like that for 2 months I was preparing to send it on service. However just few days ago vibration started to work again. Very strange. At first it would buzz in most of the cases but it was improving by itself over the past few days and now buzzing is completely gone and clean vibration is working just fine. I can still get a few buzzes when writing but that is also improving by every day. I am expecting in the next 10 days that typing vibration will slowly recover itself completely since I am getting better and better results by every day. I know this is so strange!!! But I am not complaining 🙂 I really can’t think of doing anything special on my phone that could cause the vibration to start recovering itself but It did started after enabling developer options and USB debugging. I really can’t see how can this affect vibrations but you can also give it a try. Please let me know if this helped at all. English is not my native language so please excuse me for mistakes.

    -Update-
    Few more informations:
    Phone: Sony Xperia Z1
    Model number: C6903
    Android version: 4.4.4
    Rooted: no
    Factory reset: never
    Clear catche partitions: yes
    Phone dropped: never
Phone exposed to water: never (few rain drops only)

OK, just to update my previous post.
Besides enabling USB debugging I did also cleared catche and data for:
Facebook, fb messenger, whattsapp, messages app, Xperia keyboard.

From my last post the vibration while typing has improved a lot. I am getting scratchy sound on every maybe hundred letter pushed but I guess this will fix itself in few days. Vibration has fully recovered in everything else.
    Test vibration 100% success
Receiving phone calls vibration works fine 100%
Receiving messages (sms, whattsapp, fb messenger, notifications…) vibration works 100%

I am not really sure what has caused vibration to recover itself since it was not an instant fix but the vibration was slowly recovering itself over the period of one month.

All of this doesn’t make any sense to me but I am very eager to find out how is this possible. What could possibly trigger recovery of vibration?
If you have any ideas or suggestions on what could possibly caused this please post it here so we can help other users of this great phone.

    *Important notice
Do not mess with any other option in developer options. There is a good reason why this is hidden from regular users. U COULD DESTROY YOUR PHONE COMPLETELY!!

    (speaking English, excellent. Writing, naahhh.)

My Xperia Z1 also got this problem. A month ago I’ve already sent to Sony Centre to claim this hardware fault, it takes 1 month 2 week to solve (cause of no vibration motor spare part in Malaysia) and now the problem happen again like a squeaking sound on vibration just like my previous issue.. Need to send back or claim a new one? Damn it.. Poor me..

*already used for 3 month, then vibration issue came out. Sent for warranty repair for almost 2 month of waiting, yet a month later the curse came back.. T_T

Sony customer service has replied regard on my query. Here what they said: “In regards to your queries, we apologized for the unpleasant experience caused. We regret to inform you that we do not have any replacement policy but nevertheless please proceed to the service centre so that the technician can diagnose thoroughly the phone.”

I lived in Johor, I already sent it on last weekend at my nearer sony centre. Don’t know what to do except this. My friend (phone shop) also has customer claimed on defect product, almost 3 month (cause of no component part in Malaysia). They shipped to Sony Xperia Japan. Luckily, the customer report the delay and Sony Xperia Japan replied ASAP. Within 3 days, they shipped back a new set for him and called to confirm whether the shipment were okay or not. ^0^

    hi,
im from pakistan and unfortunately am struck with the same very problem; the vibration malfunction :(. dont really know what to do other than search for a fix online. the sony service centers in pakistan arent really of much assistance and so i dont really have the option of taking it to them. cant get it replaced . one thing i dont really fathom is how the hell can a phone costing more than $500 have such ridiculous problems :(. but i really hope all of the people having the same problem manage to get the phone replaced as the phone itself is quite good 🙂
