Some users are raising concerns about the how well Xperia Z1 is build, we have come across some pictures of Xperia Z1 on Sony Mobile forum where users are complaining that their Xperia Z1’s screen and body has bent from its regular position and is lifted up, well at this stage it is hard to tell that is it hardware fault or user’s fault. Well let’s have a deep look into the matter what happened.

UPDATE – 12 Feb 2014 ]

Xperia SP Frame Bent Issue appeared like Xperia Z1 – Poor Build Quality or User’s Fault ?

This is what we found “a user says that his one month old Xperia Z1 is bent itself, he didn’t sit on it”…Check the pic below where bottom end of Xperia Z1 has bent.

Xperia Z1 Body Bent

In a first look, it seems user has sat over Xperia Z1 while it was in back pocket may be, but the concerned owner denies this fact…only God knows the fact.

Another user has also posted the pic of his Xperia Z1 which is bent from front side. This user claims that he has rectified the bent by pressing it, and now 99% it is horizontal ( pic not attached ).

Xperia Z1 Screen Bent

It’s quite obvious phone doesn’t come like that, user must have done something to it, may be sat on it or pressurized it.

An XDA user dante2086 posted some pics of his bent Xperia Z1, it looks awful terrible, he mentioned that his phone got some serious heat exposure lately so has heat done it for him ? User claims he never put it in back pocket or sat on it.!

Another user “Mart Harwood” sent us his picture of bent Xperia Z1, according to him it suddenly appeared, he didn’t do anything, as per him it may be the heat which is causing this type of distortion in the Xperia Z1 body.

Z1 Bent appears on upper side

Well we don’t think it is a hardware fault as it is hard to believe that it happened itself, but this is the case as per the users who are complaining about this issue, Is it an issue, is it right to call it an issue…Is heat causing this issue as no normal usage phone reaches 40 degree very easily and while gaming it reaches upto 45-46 degree.

Another Xperia Z1 user “V8Matt” has got in touch with us, and his Xperia Z1 also suffers from unconditional bends, that’s pathetic.

It seems the frame bent issue on Xperia Z1 is getting worse, another user  “Thomas Uldahl” reached us with the below image.

Xperia Z1 Frame Bent

Let us know, what do you think on this…Send us your pics of bent Xperia Z1 if it has…

That’s amazing! Sony was ahead with the curved phones thing!

Sarcasm aside, that’s obvious they did something to bent the phone. I’m a happy Xperia Z1 owner and mine and all the phones I saw when I purchased it were perfectly straight.

I just bought an Xperia Z1s, I hope this doesn’t happen to mine!
One thing I noticed different, my headphone jack is not where these are… Mine is almost centered on the top.
I wonder if its re designed?

‘Wished that i didn’t saw this post.. I just noticed that the left upper part of my z1 is slightly bent,I swear I didn’t sat on my phone or got squeezed in my pocket.. This may be because of playing hd games on my phone, causing it to heat up then somehow soften the metal on the side of the phone.. That’s just my theory though.. One thing’s for sure, I’m going to return this phone and have it replaced tomorrow. This sucks..

Hey Kevin, yes it is happening with many users that’s why we reported…It would be great if you can send us the High Quality images of your Xperia Z1, the region from where it is bent, let users see so they can identify the same in their Z1.

P.S. Mail us images on [email protected] ASAP if possible…

i dont think its heat related. Im using the Xperia SP, first aluminium bodied Xperia i believe. and i game alot and i dont have any sort of problem like this nor ive seen anyone with that problem with a SP. so i guess its a manufacture error.

i don’t know what made this bend, it’s not that noticable at all if you look at it like you see on the picture posted, you will only see it when you look at it closely or if the phone is facing down, you will see that the plastic edge (where the glass and the metal meets) disappears where the bend is. the other side is straight, only the upper left side is bent slightly..

i wish i could post a picture of what i’m talking about but unfortunately i don’t have my camera right now..

my phone is 5 weeks old btw. and in the process of factory reset (using sony update service) as i was typing this ’cause i’m going to return it tomorrow..

Ok buddy do note our email id and mail us some pics tomorrow when you visit service center, take from their cam.

We hope Sony consider this under warranty, good luck 🙂

Just got my new replacement from Sony. ‘turns out that Sony center Philippines Completely ruled out the possibility of owner’s negligence (in my case at least) as they didn’t see any marks indicating that the device had been subjected to force, pressure or accidentally dropped, they actually quick to say that the issue is a factory defect and that they will give me a replacement shortly.. That being said, I am very much happy that Sony is aware of this kind of issue.. ‘guess I have to look closely to every corner of the phone before buying one next time..

Sorry I didn’t post any pictures, I don’t have my camera since Ditched it and gave it to my girlfriend after getting the z1..

Hey Kevin, where did you buy your Z1? Glad it was covered by warranty.

    • Brando November 22, 2013 at 7:00 pm - Reply

I’m planning to buy 1 later this month and want to find out which Philippine stores give Sony warranty. Thanks.

  4. Kevin November 22, 2013 at 7:27 pm - Reply

@Brando. I suggest you buy from Xperia shops like in sm annex edsa, ’cause I bought one from mega one phones and gadgets also located in sm annex edsa (a shop where you usually see different kinds of phone for sale) ‘turns out they gave me a factory defect, (the metal body is slightly bent, not properly polished and the shatter proof film is installed sloppily) Good thing it includes 1 year warranty from Sony (7 day replacement at their store). Got my phone at 33,390 pesos. (around 35-36k at Xperia stores btw)

Bullshit, i just noticed that my z1 also is slightly bent in the middle of its body! I’m carefully returning it to its original shape but it can’t! I got it from kimstore before its official release here in philippines. Fvck this shit!

I have the Z ultra which is of similar construction, and whilst it has not bent to this degree it has bent slightly so it rocks when on a flat surface.

This is just from having been in my pocket, and the handset has not suffered any form of abuse.

The solution i think is a nice hardcore case, however it is somewhat concerning still!

my z1 is bent too. it’s two months old and it has a slight bend developed. its bent enough so that when its lying flat i can push a piece of paper from below the phone as it doesn’t lie completely flat on the table and it rocks. on placing it upside down i can easily make it rotate on the part that touches the table. its convex from one side or you can say concave from the other. i live in india so i am worried as indians aren’t the best in customer support so i’ll look to have it replaced using the 6month accidental warranty i got free if they don’t agree to the fact that there has been no real accidental damage on the phone

It’s a relatively common problem with the xperia Z1. If you keep it in a plastic(or other material that doesn’t conduct heat) case, heat cannot escape so the phone gets hot. The Z1’s frame is made out of aluminum while the case is glass. Metal changes length more than glass when exposed to heat so the phone bends.

“Metal changes length more than glass when exposed to heat so the phone bends”

Ummm … it’s glass on both sides – why would it bend one way, not the other ?

Look after your precious gadgets, folks ! Treat them nicely.

Plus, why wouldn’t it un-bend when cooled ?

Hey people, I’m using an aluminium case with my Z1 which is super strong and prevents any damage. Maybe thats a solution for any bending problems plus it looks great! (I have a red one)
