    Hi,
I am updating my Xperia Z to firmware 10.1.1.A.1.253……but it ias taking ages in “prepare” stage……is something missing….?????
    Plz guide me……

    • Anurag Kumar May 15, 2013 at 1:45 pm - Reply

No nothing is missing, it’s just that the firmware update is of 756 MB, so it depends on your internet connection speed to download it.

Or there may be a case that sony update engine software is missing from your PC.

I will ask you to update your phone via SUS Sony Update Service software, it’s very easy to update via this.

      Download SUS here – http://software.sonymobile.com/install_packs/Update_Service_Setup-2.13.2.40.exe

All Steps with images are given here in the (alternate section of Xperia P update) Please check the link – http://gizmobolt.com/2013/05/13/how-to-update-xperia-p-lt22i-to-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-6-2-a-0-400-firmware-officially-via-pc-companion-sus-ota-method/

Yes, it took an hour or so to prepare and then update… I was using a 2Mbit/s connection in Iran.

      • Anurag Kumar May 21, 2013 at 3:17 pm - Reply

Yes, it would be better if all you people get your Xperia Z update via SUS, it’s easy there…

  2. AfiiQ May 15, 2013 at 12:21 pm - Reply

My PC Companion say there is update and after clicking update the its starts downloading and preparing. After that while checking my phone its automatically shutdown my phone and after a few sec it produce error message stating “sony update engine doesn’t have software available for your phone”

    • Anurag Kumar May 15, 2013 at 1:41 pm - Reply

it looks like sony update engine service software is missing from your PC, i would suggest you to “update your xperia z via sony update service” software.

To update via “sony update service” (SUS), please follow steps given below :-

      1 – Download Sony Update Service I 40.31 MB
      Update_Service_Setup-2.13.2.40.exe – http://software.sonymobile.com/install_packs/Update_Service_Setup-2.13.2.40.exe

2 – Charge your phone at least 60%. Open SUS. Switch off your Xperia Z. Now after waiting for 30 seconds, connect the USB cable to your PC and now pressing “Volume Down” button connect USB’s other half to your Xperia Z (Flashing key for Xperia Z). As soon as your phone is connected you will see “Green” light blinking in the notification LED i.e. is called booting into Flash Mode. SUS will now check the connected phone and will show you up as a notification as shown below.

To see all steps with IMAGE GUIDE – see here http://gizmobolt.com/2013/05/13/how-to-update-xperia-p-lt22i-to-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-6-2-a-0-400-firmware-officially-via-pc-companion-sus-ota-method/

Hello, I have a Sony Xperia Z C6603 bought in the UK. The Even still this is not accusing this new update, in this case what should I do. She takes it out to everyone and it is possible that not all receive?

    • Anurag Kumar May 19, 2013 at 3:19 pm - Reply

Yes many other users have also quoted this that they have not still got the update yet in their country it has been rolled out.
Well in this case, if you have unlocked bootloader on your Xperia Z, you can flash this firmware update ftf file. flashing guide has been posted above.

  6. Ewerton Felippe May 19, 2013 at 2:24 pm - Reply

Could you post the link FTF C6603 on another site, type mega, hotfile, sendspace, etc, because I’m not in google and you will get, always says that has many users downloading. I appreciate if you can do this for us.

    • Anurag Kumar May 19, 2013 at 3:23 pm - Reply

Well it’s very easy to sign up on google, it’s very tedious to upload a 750+ MB file again.

Well as Google drive has user sharing limit. If it shows that error then please wait for 24 hours according to your Timings and as soon as it gets 00.01 am download it.

  7. Ewerton Felippe May 19, 2013 at 8:14 pm - Reply

But I have not unlocked bootloader and did not want to change it, is there another way to update.

    • Anurag Kumar May 19, 2013 at 8:23 pm - Reply

If you don’t want to change it then you have to wait till your phone shows up the notification update.

You can try visiting the nearest Sony customer care, check your phone their on EMMA software available with the customer care to check whether the latest update is available or not.

    Hi Anurag,
I’m in US and still don’t have a notification about update yet. I’ve tried to use SUS it seems like it will factory reset the phone instead of updating new firmware. My phone have unlocked bootloader.
What is your advice? should I wait? or flash my phone?
    Thanks in advance.

    • Anurag Kumar May 23, 2013 at 12:44 pm - Reply

Well strange that you have not got notification yet…

Well i guess SUS will also not show notification and it will re-install or repair the old jb firmware again, is there any option there to factory reset phone, i don’t think so :/

Well if you want to wait for official firmware update in US region then you need to wait buddy otherwise as you have unlocked bootloader you can flash your firmware ftf file, it’s good many users have done that.

  9. Tee May 24, 2013 at 9:41 am - Reply

The thing is that non of the carriers here carry this phone so that the update is lagging here. I’ve tried the SUS today and my phone is back to the first stage with 4.1.2 and build number is 10.1.A.1.434.
Also trying to unlock the bootloader but no luck, too complicated for me (first time try) so I guess I’ll wait till it available OTA

    • Anurag Kumar May 24, 2013 at 3:14 pm - Reply

Yes unlocking bootloader is very tricky :/ I know that…you can check out some videos posted on youtube.
In that case you need to wait only, wait till sony officially rolls OTA update in US 🙂
Good luck 🙂 keep visiting us.

        Hi
Yes I did check out the youtube but there’s so many ways that people are doing plus everyone seems to use different software to do it.
I still want to try it if you can show me detailing how and which program to use that much appreciate.

        • Anurag Kumar May 24, 2013 at 6:36 pm - Reply

Hi, yes if you want to unlock the bootloader on your Xperia Z, i will ask you to follow the official guide presented by Sony here at unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com

Do check it and try to unlock the bootloader it will be fine or if you have already checked above link, do let me know will find a video for you then.

          • Tee May 24, 2013 at 6:49 pm -

I did check out the link that you’ve posted above from Sony. I wish if you could provide me some videos related to that method from Sony please.
            Thanks!

          • Anurag Kumar May 24, 2013 at 7:59 pm -

Yes i have found video tutorial here. – youtube.com/watch?v=LRH3pC7MhEA

Follow the above link, the unlocking steps are same for every xperia device.
            check the above video.

          • Tee May 25, 2013 at 7:34 am -

I’ve found that video too but I got stuck at cmd where input the fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version and it just stayed at “waiting for device”
Also when I connect my phone (OFF) with pressing Volume Up I have blue light am I doing it right? it doesn’t ask me for the USB driver though.

    Hi,
I am updating my Xperia Z to firmware 10.1.1.A.1.253 then i want to load backup files but PC companion dont respond and shut down how can i load backup files manual

    • Anurag Kumar May 24, 2013 at 3:10 pm - Reply

      Hi,
Yes i have understood your problem. Same problem occurred with my Xperia SL also as back up file was of 5 GB.

So it depends on your files size, if it is of greater size like 3-4 GB, then as soon as you click on PC Companion’s back up and restore option, the computer’s mouse cursor shows processing is going on, let it happen, if you will click on pc companion at this stage it will be force stopped. Do not do anything after clicking on restore option.

PC companion will restore all files but it will take a lot time to process say almost 30 minutes then phone will be restored.

Try this method once and let us know if you have any more issues then 🙂

      • Ahmet Burak Karkaç May 24, 2013 at 4:33 pm - Reply

        thanks for advice

i guess this problem reason is size because my backup file 3.5 GB so i will try waiting

        thanks again

Ok, do mention your country please.
If PC companion not showing any update notification, please do check via Sony Update Service, it may show :/

            i’m from Turkey,

          • Anurag Kumar May 25, 2013 at 2:05 am -

Try via SUS and if it doesn’t happen then you can flash the firmware ftf file.

        • Anurag Kumar May 25, 2013 at 2:12 am - Reply

OH sorry You have the query of backing up your data on Xperia Z via PC Companion.

Well if you have waited a lot and still not able to restore it and PC companion is force closing again and again, then there is one tedious solution.

The backed up file is something like “Sony Xperia™ SL (LT26)#13.dbk” . So what you need to do is, you need to change the extension of this file from “.dbk” to “.rar” and this file will be converted to .rar file.

Now unzip / unrar this file in a folder > You will see all your data here > by this method you can restore photos / videos and apps but the “saved app data / messages / call logs” will not be restored.

          Do let us know.
